I am an occasional listener to Laura. I used to listen more often, but lately I am finding her to be a bit hypocritical.
For example, she usually vilifies certain people in the main stream media for their obvious left-leaning bias, but when she has them on her show, she backpeddles. She did this with Chris Matthews and it infuriated me. She laid into him on her show one night and then had him in the studio and was letting him dominate the conversation with his left-wing propaganda.
She is also a bit too concerned with being known for the music they play on the show. She adopts an adolescent persona in crowing, “We were the first to play Ryan Adams. We introduced that band.” She drops names and city names and basically exhalts herself for being such a worldly woman. I find it all boring and contradictory to the point of view she supposedly takes when complaining about the culture wars.
Anyway, just one person’s opinion. I’m glad she has found Catholicism and that she defends the Faith.

I think this has nothing to do with Jesus looks at us…it has everything to do with how WE look at Jesus. Is He God, or not? If Jesus were going to come to dinner in your home, you probably clean your home and wear your best clothes, correct?
It is about giving God our best in every way that we can. Improper dress is NOT a reflection of Jesus in any way; rather, it reflects poorly upon us…it says we do not care how we are dressed around the Creator of all things, that Jesus does not deserve our effort to be dressed well.

That’s exactly what I thought you meant.
Still, if a homeless person or a person who was mentally ill came to Church and wasn’t dressed well I would love them and sit with them or stand by them in Church. If a person who had the ability to dress nicely dressed as if they were homeless or were a street walker I might find a way to gently suggest that they might wish to dress differently.
A first time visitor to the Church would need such help. A long time participant who dressed immodestly or slovenly seems rather to lack humility.

In general, its no body’s business what someone wears to church as long as they are decently dressed (for modesty).
I have a painful foot condition and sometimes my feet swell …if I have to wear flip flops to church during a painfull episode then thats my concern no one elses…except God of course…but then He knows my heart.

Will you be wearing jeans, flip-flops and a peasant top to your wedding? What will the other guests wear? If so then maybe you are dressing just as you should. But if you are dressing better than that for your wedding and your groom why wouldn’t you dress better for our Bridegroom. Remember Jesus is the Bridegroom and the Church (which is us) is the Bride (see 787-796 of the Catechism). Now the verse you quoted certainly applies especially to those who are coming they best way they are able. For example, those poor women who were dressed in rags were likely coming in what they could and to expect any more from them would have put an undue burden on them. Or if you were coming from work where it is necessary to wear a uniform then expecting you to change may be an undue burden. When we dress nicely to go to church, it isn’t for God, but for us to show reverence to God. It is a way of saying “Thank you” for all that you do for me. Since you gave me your best (Jesus), I will in some small way try to give you my best.

Yes, of course He did. I will say again, this is NOT about Jesus and what He does. It is how we love and respect our Lord! It is a reflection on us, not Jesus.
I find it a bit disgusting that so many people would wear nice dresses or suits if they were to go to a wedding or to see the Pope, etc., yet when it comes to seeing and receiving Jesus, personal appearance means nothing. I feel this is a sign of the times, it is NOT a good sign.
Do not forget the parable of the wedding feast.

I disagree. Our Lord Jesus Christ comes to us at every Mass, and it is everyone’s duty to care how we present ourselves to God as one body of Christ.

I find it amazing that our separated brethren in Protestant Churches who do even follow the real faith have more sense to dress well, then do most Catholics who have the real faith at their finger tips. Amazing.
