“We would question, however, any policy that is more pro-fetus than actually pro-life,” Sister Farrell said.

This quote speaks volumes about how she feels about abortion.

Indeed. These “Sisters” just lost, irrevocably, any sympathies or concerns I may have had for them. Reform 'em, axe their organization, boot 'em out, but whichever way it has to happen, get their heresies OUT of my God-given Church.

Hey Sister, just come out and say “Fetuses aren’t alive.” She’s is not only scientifically ignorant, she’s a heretic too. Great combination to spend your life as.

Do not think the LCWR can be reformed because I do not think they see anything wrong with their views being out of touch with Catholic teaching. Certain teaching of the Church are infallible, and they do not seem to except that, they seem to think that you have a diversity of opinion on an issue like abortion or marriage

Well spoken. In Full agreement. 👍

Thank you for sharing that thread. I was following it some time ago and it was quite informative. Brother J.R. had some especially helpful insights as I recall.🙂
He typically does. There is a good deal of other info as well such as reports and interviews with a psychologist who worked with many of the women religious groups a few decades ago, etc. Some informative stuff all around.

Peace,

In Catholic understanding, yes you are always to follow your conscience. But the caveat is that you conscience must be informed by the Truth. If your conscience is telling you something different then your conscience has been misinformed, and it is your responsibility and duty to inform it. Perpetual ignorance is not an excuse.

“We have been in good faith raising concerns about some of the church’s teaching on sexuality,” she said. “The teaching and interpretation of the faith can’t remain static and really needs to be reformulated, rethought in light of the world we live in and new questions, new realities as they arise.”
On the issue of abortion, she said the work of U.S. women religious is “very much pro-life.”
“We would question, however, any policy that is more pro-fetus than actually pro-life,” Sister Farrell said. “You know,** if the rights of the unborn trump all the rights of all those who are already born**, that is a distortion, too.”
Emphases are mine.

Moral relativity begins when you lose faith in God.

I really think Pope Benedict is becoming and will be one of the amazing Popes like John Paul II - in different ways. Things like this tell me that we might be on the verge of a huge sea-change in our Church, and frankly I’m excited!

Agreed.

Indeed. If someone says they are following their conscience in a situation like that, it actually isn’t your conscience. Rather it is your opinion.

It is a sign of our narcissistic and self-absorbed culture that the two could be confused.

I believe the conscience question is just blowing smoke. Surely these highly educated women, consecrated to God’s service, are well aware of the difference between conscience and individually interpreted morality which bucks objective standards of truth as proclaimed by the Church.
