Yes, I felt that book was almost like a “healing ointment” for some rather bad treatment that I had received at the hands of some LDS. Felt like “Wow! An LDS of some authority is speaking the truth (instead of just “handing out” the usual faith promoting stories)–now why couldn’t that have been done before?” It felt almost like a relief. So, it sounds like you felt it was a helpful book?
Yes, I’d recommend the book. I also recommend a little book (I think it’s out-of-print now) entitled something like A Tale of Two Cities–the Vatican and Salt Lake City. It’s written by a Catholic priest who has LDS relatives and seems to take a compassionate view. And about the polygamy issue, there’s Todd Compton’s (also LDS) book, In Sacred Loneliness. Eyeopening.
