And why should he be the last one?

And why shouldn’t he be?

Of course not! I am talking about the religion that Jesus established, as recorded in the New Testament. That is not the same thing as Catholicism. There is nothing in that revelation, that scripture, that New Testament, which justifies belief in the idea that public revelation ended with the last Apostle.
Jesus did not establish a religion. He established a Church and the Catholic Church is that Church that He established. It has been in existence with the same truths and authority given it by Jesus for 2000 years. Many, including the LDS, have tried to prove otherwise but have failed to do so.

And, not everything has been recorded in scripture. John himself says so. Just because it it is not recorded does not mean it is not so.

Mormons have confession to bishops and stake presidents if a sin was grave such as adultery or fornication, theft or defalcation, or abusive relationships. But that is to keep the partaking of communion a pure ordinance. The healing comes from Christ.
Do Mormon bishops and stake presidents have the authority to forgive sins?

Do Mormon Apostles have the authority to forgive sins?

No, they don’t; but they do have the priesthood and spiritual authority to guide the sinner through the process of repentance, and the discernment to know by the Holy Spirit when the person’s sins are forgiven. Forgiveness comes only through the process of repentance. There is no forgiveness without repentance. The most important thing that a minister of the gospel can do for a sinner is not to “forgive” him; but to guide him through the process of repentance so that he can be forgiven by the Lord.
Do Mormon Apostles have the authority to forgive sins?
Yes they do; but it is not a privilege that they exercise very often. The right way for a sinner is not to go to an Apostle to be forgiven by him; but to go to his bishop who can guide him through repentance as described above.

OK. Thanks for the info.

How does the Mormon church interpret John 20:21-23? I guess I haven’t gotten a clear picture of that from Parker’s posts. Thanks. 🙂

The power to forgive sins was given to the Apostles, and only to them. There were only twelve of them at any one time, and ever would be. That power was never given to the bishops or to ordinary priests. The bishops were not Apostles and never would be. They had the same authority that a Mormon bishop does, and it did not include the ability to forgive sins. The bishop can only guide the sinner through the process of repentance so that the Lord can forgive him. He also has the power of discernment to know when that divine forgiveness has taken place, and declare the person forgiven. See my previous post.

OK. Obviously I don’t agree with you or your church’s interpretation, (for more info. see my previous exchange with Parker about Reconciliation), but I appreciate the clarification. Thank you.

Daniel 2 refers to a kingdom that God would set up in the last days that would destroy all other kingdoms, and itself endure forever. We believe that that kingdom refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
…a kingdom…

…that would destroy all other kingdoms…

We believe that that kingdom refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Your kingdom is VIOLENT !!!

The muslims are greater than you. You won’t defeat them.

The dialogue on this issue validates, in my view, about apostasy.

The last poster has a different understanding of the scripture noted, Daniel 2:44. So who is right?

One thing I respect my Mormon friends about is that they understand the Bible to be correct so far as it was translated correctly. The different translations among whatever church obviously has different interpretation among the churches.
Courtwiswa,

You like many are caught in a bubble that will not allow you to receive Christ’s humility which will permit you to see that your mind is not where truth lies and just because you can find someone to agree with you does not make your fallable interpretation of a bible verse TRUTH.

The one truth that I see from your remarks is that you do not believe that Christ is who the any and all translations of the old and new testaments state He is. Read Isaiah 53 or Psalm 22 to know that in perfect innocence He was sentenced to die and did for any and all sins of those who believe and humbly ask for forgiveness.

Share in the Good News that Jesus is Lord and the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD.
Share in the Good News that we must come to God through the eyes of a CHILD. I believe that to mean that I must depend, obey, and trust in the ONE AND ONLY GOD of this UNIVERSE `, just like being ‘BORN AGAIN’

God is ONE in THREE PERSONS. IF you believe in this than you would not doubt in the one true Church…the Body of Christ…the Catholic Church. This does not in any way mean that a Catholic is worth more to God than anyone not Catholic. It just means that Christ wanted believers to be able to stay on track. So He gave that way to His children.

His Church, which was later named the Catholic Church, is the choice that Christ gave to the world prior to His departure to get to Heaven. Many people don’t know it and since they don’t they are not at fault.

Peace and Happiness to all on this celebrated day of Jesus’ birth.

May you open your heart to the gift of humility.

To say the apostles were the only ones to forgive sins…again, it is this denial that the apostles were given the mandate to lay down the foundation of Christ’s Church.

The Mormons can have successors but the Apostles can’t.

Error. Big one.
