Perhaps you also believe that every one of us have always existed from all eternity; originally we all existed as “intelligences”. Then heavenly father and heavenly mother gave us spirit bodies. Then earthly father of an earthly mother gave us our physical bodies. We have existed for ever and we will continue to exist forever. (1) So, what salvation did Jesus die to give us? (2) It’s not salvation from hell (IT IS SALVATION FROM HELL FOR THOSE WHO GO THERE FOR THE THOUSAND YEARS DURING WHICH THEY WILL SUFFER THERE; is it salvation from (NOT “FROM”–INSTEAD “TO”) a lesser degree of eternal glory?
Please answer this one question for me: (3) If I committed the sin of first-degree murder, could I be totally forgiven solely by the merits of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross; and in the hereafter go on to the first-degree of the Celestial Kingdom and be a God?
JohnVIII,
Thanks for the questions, to clarify.
(1) The word “salvation” as I understand the term has two connotations. Most of the time in the New Testament, it is synonymous with what I describe as “exaltation” meaning, “being a joint heir with Jesus Christ through His power and grace.”
The second connotation has limited use in the Bible, but is inferred in passages that say:
Romans 14:9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Phillipians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Isaiah 45: 23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24 Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
25 In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now, in these passages, note that many are cast into the lake of fire, but as I read the above verse 10, the devil suffers that condition for ever and ever, but the others do not–they are eventually rescued, consistent with Isaiah 61:1-5. They are rescued from prison. This is a condition of “salvation” or “rescue”, but it only provides a rescue from eternal torment–not a rescue into a condition of being a “joint heir” and having allowance into the “city” described in Revelation 22:14. They indeed receive “according to their works”, yet they confess that Jesus is the Christ and He rescues them from eternal torment to allow them limited glory because that is what they chose.
(3) Absolutely not. King David understood that he would be rescued from Hell, but had disqualified himself from being a joint heir because of what he had done with Uriah.
