Okay, now I know the context. JS was murdered one month later. To my understanding, JS knew that he could face death at any moment. He made that speeech in the heat of the moment when his rush of adrinalin was at its highest. I can respect him for saying what he said. He wanted to make an impact on his audience and he did. And he was also correct. But one paragraph does not make a man or a woman.

Indeed, the whole of JS life makes him and the whole of his life makes him answerable to God for much.

What I find absolutely amazing is that there are people who actually believe what JS said. He sounds like he was truly mentally unbalanced.:rolleyes:

Indeed, just mormonism seems to be based entirely on it (IMO).

Sure there are people who listen to his message. It is the same message that Eve listened to when she was tempted in the garden…

It is human nature to want God’s power and glory, and that is exactly what JS promised to his followers, not just that they would be with God and know Him, but that they would become just like He is now.

It’s really sad, in my opinion, to bring God down to such a level. For the only way a creature can become God is to assert that God was once as we are.

JS got it wrong… Dead wrong. Whether he did it intentionally or unwittingly is a question that may never be answered in this lifetime.

What is the light of truth, but God Himself?

(And perhaps the irony of my statement was lost on you, I am well aware that mormons call “intelligence” the “existent material”. Yet another absurd teaching, unless you are naming God, “Intelligence”. Which, even then, in the context of mormon thought, is a stretch.)

Not really, no. The core of our consciousness, the reflection of the Divine, is our souls. Catholic teaching is that your soul is created at conception. Contrary to Mormon belief, and some sort of Eastern philosophy & American enlightenment thing (sort of redundant to Mormon belief) you have going.

This still does not line up to Catholic belief. I think you are confusing the Incarnation, eternally begotten and creation. Which, I can understand doing.

To paraphrase Chesterton, an “open-mind” is only as useful as an open mouth–eventually it has to shut closed on something worthwhile (for the mouth, food, for the mind, truth),

BTW, since your liz hoax, I am still praying a novena of conversion (for you) to Our Lady of Perpetual help. Don’t bother trying to convince me you’ve already converted–its obvious you have not.

In what way?

If you mean, God can be known by what He has created, this is wholly Catholic.

If you mean, the nature of God exists in creation, or inhabits creation, as in: His nature AS God, no, this is not Catholic at all. This is paganism.

Or more pointedly to Eastern philosophy, where the belief is the Divine is not without, but within, no, this is not Catholic at all.
