the JST is NOT accepted as one of the “standard works” of the LDS church.
It is not officially “canonized;” but it is included in the standard works as footnotes and an appendix, which implies that the General Authorities consider them to be inspired. The scriptures in the Pearl of Great Price were in print, and recognized as scripture before they were officially canonized. The vision of the redemption of the dead by Joseph F. Smith was recognized as revelation and scripture long before it was officially canonized. The fact that the JST is published in the LDS standard works in the way that it has been implies that it is regarded as inspired and of God.

only those sections that are published as canonized scripture have that status. otherwise i believe you just made a strong case for the Lectures of Faith. 👍

I have no problems with the Lectures on Faith.

We will find out when we die. But it really doesn’t matter anyway. What matters is our salvation. We need to keep our eye on the ball and not stray from it.
I agree we will find out when we die. And it does matter, searching for the truth is the greatest quest a person can take. I think that as Christians we can all agree that we have found that truth, which is Christ Jesus!!! That being said Christ can not lie. Jesus left us a Church which could not have taught error or have gone apostate at all ever. Mormons, I humbly ask “Are you calling Christ a liar”? because Jesus said, “the gates of hell could not prevail against the Church.”. Explain this to me? These words of our Lord Jesus Christ are what brought me back to the original Roman Catholic Church. Your Church by it’s own admission calls itself Later Day that to me proves the Mormon Faith is False. Because the bible teaches in the end times (Later Day’s) false prophets will arise and not to believe them. We need to keep our eye on the Cross (Christ). I do not care how good and wholesome your church and it’s people seem to be. The fruit in the Garden looked good and look were that got us you . You may be good car salesmen but you are selling lemons.

The interesting thing about the mormon church is in its name. For example, it is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This is an interesting since it implies that the early christians were called saints as they were in the bible. Now the members of christ’s church are called latter day saints. The mormon church has quite a name for its church.

Your quotation about the gates of hell is left open to interpretation. What is unique about the bible is that people or churches interpret it in their own individual way. But in my opinion, there can only be one true church of christ and it is either the catholic church or the mormon church. I can see no other faith that can lay to such a claim and make it stick.

The Catholic Church gave us The Bible!

So I will trust their interpretation of it. How do you figure that The Mormon Church is the one true Church? Does it have Apostolic Succession? Since Jesus said to Peter “Upon this rock I will build my Church” therefor making Peter the first Pope. Where is your Pope?

The Catholic Church gave us The Bible!
Not only is this true, but there is great irony in the LDS claim of the apostasy of the Catholic Church and their use of the Catholic Scriptures (Holy Bible) in the stripped down “lite” version preferred by Protestants.

The LDS are an apostasy from Christianity built on the heresy of Protestantism.

You have honestly admitted what lurks in the hearts of many LDS. It is either one or the other. You must bet your eternity on that. So, look to history, veracity, testability, longevity. Look for a faith that is hard to join but easy to leave. Shy away from one that is easy to join and hard to leave. You know of which I speak. Choose wisely.

Not true. The Jews gave us the Bible.

zerinus
Not True. The old testament books are from Jewish Scripture but had never been gathered in one collection or found to all be inspired. Also the New testament although the writers of the books were Jewish it would be hard pressed to say they are Jewish writings. It was the Catholic Church that defined what books are to be in the Bible Old and New Testaments. What is now know as the Jewish cannon came into being after the Catholic church had already Set the Cannon of the Old testament. Then some 1500 years later Luther decided the other books should be removed. then some 200 to 300 years after that J Smith decided to rewrite (added words to) those that Luther did not remove.

Like it or not, the Jews gave us the Bible. Nobody else did.

Were you so afraid of my post that you had to make it unreadable?

zerinus
No.

You have never presented a coherent point in support of Mormonism. In fact many of your own posts refute Mormonism. Your historical revisionism is no different than that of the holocaust deniers.

Making all of your text dark red doesn’t give your ludicrous arguments any credibility.

I know I’m jumping into this thread late, but how can anything like this statement be defensible? "The head God called together the Gods and sat in grand council to bring forth the world. The grand councilors sat at the head in yonder heavens and contemplated the creation of the worlds which were created at the time. " This is nothing more than polytheism, a return to early pagan beliefs in more than one God. All that remains is to give names to the gods they are re-inventing.

Peace,

Gail
