Many are drawn to the LDS church for it’s focus on family values and clean living (WoW). My own coming from a family with severe alcoholism, the WoW was a BIG BIG draw.

Mormonism is a lifestyle, not just a Sunday thing (for many Catholics, being Catholic is a Sunday thing; for others, a Christmas/Easter thing, not to mention most Catholics are not really big in reading the scriptures) Young converts are often the result of being in love with someone who is LDS and the idea of being “sealed for all time and eternity” is very very appealing/romantic for someone very much in love, as oppose to the “til death do you part”…

Not giving a defense of Mormonism, but pointing out some of it’s appeal to why people convert… 🤷
“Families are forever” is I suppose another way to put it. Mormonism teaches together in the CK. But, how can they be together forever if the whole point of reaching the highest exaltation is to have your very own planet with your own wives and make new spiritual babies that come to earth and repeat the cycle as you did. (This is the general you)

You are all on separate planets. How is that togetherness?

you have to have several planets to have places to keep all your wives

There will be family reunions every summer. 😛 Everyone will catch up on who has the mist spirit children and ask “How’s your planet coming along?” Or “Have you selected the savior for your world yet?”

:rotfl: I would like to be a fly on the wall and hear that conversation. Appreciate the laugh.

on my mission, elders would always joke around on how we would make a pokemon world. To be honest, i kinda wish that was true lol

Honestly, I hope this thread gets closed right off the bat. It’s biased and aggressive towards a faith, and most of the logic you’re using to argue against that church can just as easily be used against Catholicism or whatever sect of Christianity you happen to be. Don’t be so naive.
While I applaud your sentiment as far as being charitable, I would really challenge you to come up with any issues for which Catholics do not have an answer concerning our faith and our history. Nor can I think of an issue from which any of us would run. By the way, I don’t think the OP just thought this up out of the blue. This is obviously a thread which originated from discussion on a related thread and what TK says is true. There seem to be no answers to these questions.

I am guessing, of course, I can make my planet however I want it…right?
Sorry TK, only Mormons in the highest part of the highest heaven will be making planets. You’ll be in a lower kingdom with planet envy.

Just got home from church and was a very typical Sunday.

Priesthood consisted of events and parties that were being held throughout the week. Also a big emphasis on home teaching. followed by a 20 minute lesson on tithing.

sunday school consisted of a 35 minute lesson about the school of the prophets and what was being taught there and how inspired they were.

Sacrament meeting consisted of ward business, stake business, the sacrament, and some talks. Talk topics included, conversion story, preparing for eternal marriage and joseph smith.

The only time i heard Christ’s name was in a prayer. Like i’ve said in previous posts, the LDS church is becoming more and more dependant on Joseph Smith and less dependant on Jesus Christ. It’s very subtle but some of us notice that Joseph Smith is talked about more than Jesus Christ. Why is that?

Are you sure you weren’t at a staff meeting of some sort?

In the conversion story, did the person mention anything about Jesus?

I’m sorry, but I would rather stay home and be a sinner than to spend 3 hours with all of that.

Did they cover the Lectures On Faith and how it went from inspired canon included in the D&C, to being uninspired and removed from the D&C?

that is only because in Lectures on Faith, js said The Father was Spirit…

and in D&C, js changes and says the Father is flesh

It was more like a social outing without the fun.

and the conversion story consisted more of her drunk father and how happy she was about the word of wisdom and how much she liked the missionaries. Didn’t mention Christ.

no, to be honest, we didn’t really talk about anything about the school of the prophets. the teacher literally showed us a picture of where it was held, read some scriptures in D&C 88 and then the rest of the time was talking about talents of our friends that were in class with us. It was very strange now that i think about it haha

Doesn’t it seem like in the LDS sect, every 2nd or 3rd talk is about the importance of tithing?

It certainly was true when I was LDS. I got to thinking that all they really cared about was getting my money.
