Mormonism IS historically inaccurate AND deceptive. Observe the picture of the plates. Then take a look at any copy of the BOM. It is a fairly thick book. The print is fairly fine. How many plates of solid gold would be necessary to contain the entire BOM? How much would it weigh? I leave it to your imagination. After all, Joseph Smith certainly left it to HIS imagination. If you took your evidence FOR mormonism into a court of law, I am afraid that your case would be thrown out and you would be fined for wasting the Court’s time.

Appears to be a sea-sick sailor.
I was thinking this might be where the term “pass the hat” came from. So it looks to me like a caricature of a man trying real hard to visualize what his personal “preaching” cut was going to be from the collection tithe as original founder of the Mormon down line network…

When I was in the Navy, they would give you a box of saltine crackers and a chipping iron and send you out on deck. You puked and chipped paint and ate saltines until you weren’t seasick anymore. Looks like 'ol Joe just needed some crackers.👍

The plate to page ratio does sound interesting. If the BoM is 300 pages and there were 10 plates that would mean 30 pages would have to be crammed on each plate (or 15 pages per plate side), at that point the text would have to be microscopic.

The text would have to be finely stamped or engraved. I really doubt that neither the expertise or technology existed to get that much information onto any medium, much less, gold, at that point in time. Other posters have made the point that, since Joseph Smith had his “peepstone” and the plates were not even in the same location, of what particular necessity were the plates at all? I think that if these “gold plates” existed at all, Joe Smith would have legged it to the nearest place where he could turn them into cash.

Hello,

First and foremost " THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU "
to the last several posters, for all your time and efforts, who have posted after our Mormon friends seemed to have all had power outages at the same time.

As you can tell by my few posts, I am new ( a few days ) to this site.

I just read this whole thread and found it VERY educational as well as very alarming. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO AND THE SUPPPORT FOR YOU INFO

It is very arrogant and pride filled to profess a more righteous faith than the first Christians, as if someone else could do a better job. As Catholics we know are weakness, we rely on Christ strengths. All we need do is think of Peter our first Pope how he denied Christ three times after being with Him for three years. If you feel you could have done a better job that Peter then by all means become Mormon. If you feel you would be a lot like Peter than become Catholic. One consists of Pride, the other true humility. I choose true Humility over true pride and have found more joy than I ever expected. I look foreword to a life in Christ and to be with Him forever. The Catholic Church is very authentic and very much alive. As promised by our Christ. A hospital for sinners!
God Bless

If that were true, Joseph Smith was an incomparable genius. If he made it up out of his own imagination, people ought to take a second or third look at it. The sermons (particularly those of Christ following his resurrection and of Abinidi and King Benjamin) are masterpieces of theology. The parable of the olive tree from Jacob 5 is more than astounding. I’m sorry, but the claim that he made it up on the fly strains credibility more than the idea that God inspired him.

You are correct. But according to some critics like the one you responded to, he wrote it and then stuck his head in the hat and gave a rendering of the manuscript through memory. Quite a memory for JS if that were true. I have always found the hat translation to be faith promoting and not a problem. For after all, why spend time writing a book, complete with manusript only to stick your head in a hat? It doesn’t make sense at all.

Deafening silence from our mormon posters.
The hat translation is quite positive for the book of mormon. And it does make sense. Why would JS write a book complete with manuscript, if he were a fraud and then disgard the manuscript and stick his head in a hat and automatic write a book?

Can you answer that question?

The translation process occured in various of ways. But more to the point, an artists account of the procedure is just that… an artists account and no more.

Conclusion: This is NOT a work of translation–like a scholar would take a clay tablet and translate the Babylonian cuniform into English–this is a work of supposed direct revelation–with a sort of “proofreading” in the process. IF this is actually revelation, there is NO reason why Smith couldn’t have produced an exact reproduction of the lost manusript.
You missed one point: The lost manucript was in the hands of antimormons. No matter what Smith would retranslate, the manucript lost could be changed to resemble what the antimormons wanted it to resemble. FACT: the lost manuscript was never found and so, Smith made the right decision or was it from the lord? The antimormons gave up their deception.

No matter how you spin it, the BOM is a fraud.Full stop. Any document, claiming divine origin, that has been changed over 4000 times, has no evidence in history or archeology is highly suspect, to be charitable. Lately, the mormon “church” has been sliding away from the defense of the BOM, because nobody (but mormons) is buying it anymore. Why me, your arguments don’t hold water. If somebody swiped JS’s manuscript and he had really read it out of his hat(or whatever) he could have easily reproduced it. Betcha his blood ran cold when those pages got missing, now the cat was out of the bag.

Read the link that I just posted. It explains what happened after the pages disappeared. True he was disappointed but more concerned about what heavenly father would do. If he were a fraud, it would not matter to him if the pages went mission at all.

Now of course, it is up to you to prove a fraud had occured. Do you have proof and if you do, make it public. 🙂
