This is what you say, but it is inconsistent with What Jesus Said in Matthew 16: 17-19Paul C,
First, Christ holds the keys to heaven, not Peter. Peter held keys as did the other apostles to “bind on earth” those ordinances that would be “bound in heaven”, and they will be judges of the house of Israel, but Christ holds the keys to heaven, as well as the keys to death and hell.
17 Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
Again, this is your interpretation, which has no true scriptural support.The loss of the keys of authority would be because those keys meant that doctrine would be kept pure by the holders of the keys, and if supposed “successors” (who weren’t the rightful successors anyway as far as the leadership given specifically by the apostles as directed by Christ) lost the pure doctrine, then they no longer held keys of God’s authority on earth.
Review verse 18 above. Jesus said he would build his church on St. Peter and the netherwold would not prevail against it. Yet you try to claim that the Church lost its way when Peter died. Wouldn’t that be the netherworld prevailing against it?
There was no loss of understanding about Celestial marriage. It can not be found in any legitimate scripture. In fact it is clearly discredited by Scripture. Like Luke 20: 34-35:Understanding scripture, especially by church leaders, should be done by the method discussed in 1 Corinthians 2 which is by revelation to get the wisdom of the meaning directly from the Holy Spirit. The loss of understanding about celestial marriage is a symptom, not a single stand-by-itself lost doctrine.
34 Jesus said to them, "The children of this age marry and remarry;
35 but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage
Surely you are a sophisticated enough apologist that you understand the weakness of this argument. Adam and Eve’s role was to start the human race, so of course they needed to procreate. That was specific to them. Nowhere, however does scripture state that men had to marry or procreate as a requirement to enter heaven. That is strictly a Joseph Smith innovation. To make this pronouncement, Joseph Smtih contradicted Jesus who says in Matthew 19: 12:Every person who lives to adulthood on earth will be judged on the basis of what they did given what they knew and understood as the commandments they were to follow, and the sincerity of their continuing repentance during their lives. But surely no Catholic will say they did not know Adam and Eve were given to each other in marriage for their mutual benefit, and were given a commandment to multiply and replenish the earth–and would be familiar that Christ never rescinded that commandment nor diminished its importance but emphasized the importance of marriage.
12 Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it."
Isn’t " People renounce marriage for the sake of the kingdom of Heaven" in direct contradiction to Joseph Smiths rule that you can’t get to heaven UNLESS you marry?
