This didn’t happen in the Republic of Ireland, it happened in Northern Ireland, and it is part of those troubles. Nothing to do with the priest scandals.
 
Let us be accurate… Provisional Irish Republican Army… aka… the P-IRA.
 
I do hope and pray that the killer(s) are brought to justice. I definitely do not hope for the death penalty since I am opposed to it, as is the Church in the vast majority of cases, but I do hope that the killer(s) spend some time in prison.
 
My point Jharek is that most Americans, who are not of Northern Ireland extraction, do not know anything about Irish history. Hence they tend to leap the IRA into one big heap stretching from 1916 onwards. The men who fought in the Irish revolution were not directly connected to the movements of the 1950’s onwards.

Eh? A bomb goes off, set by dissident republicans, linked to Catholicism, killing a Catholic who they would see as a traitor because he works for the civil authorities promoting the peace and you expect condemnation of Protestant Loyalists??:ehh:
 
I cannot get this situation at all.
Have these republicans not noticed that both U.K,N.I and R.O.I are now overruled by Brussels with R.O.I sharing a currency that they do not control and owing a spectacular debt to the (mostly) German state within the E.U.
Soveriegnty anyone?
 
Just saying that perhaps they and loyalists are perhaps yesterdays men fighting yesterdays battle which is not pertenent to todays socio-economic reality.

The same might be said about the conflict between the Palestinian State and Israel. Unfortunately, an 800-1,000 year old on-going conflict cannot be reduced to such oversimplifications.
