What relevance that has to my original post?

amgid,

Linda is having difficulty understanding and accepting a certain doctrine of the Catholic church. She should not just “play the game by their rules”. She should make sure she understands and can accept the logic behind the doctrine before she accepts the doctrine itself. Once she has decided that the Catholic Church has the authority it claims, then she can (if she wishes, but I would never do it) “just accept” certain teachings. However, until that time, she should be cautious and careful and make sure that things make sense to her.

Todd -

Yes, you are understanding my dilemma completely.

I guess I have a problem accepting that one religion’s idea is the only correct explanation over another. Having faith, especially blind faith, is a problem for me.

What has made me want to investigate the Catholic faith is the miracles of Fatima and Lourdes. These events of recent history have captivated my interest, and I believe that religion behind it has the best chance for me to be the true faith.

But faith as interpreted by man can lose something in the translation. I would like to have some reason to believe.

I admire those who have faith. I guess I just have to do my research and studying.

And I do appreciate those on both sides of the issue to help me understand.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Thank you for trying to bring me peace.

Linda

…and for most people. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive. It is ecclesiastical history and proper Biblical exegesis that is bringing me home to Rome. It is the assurance of the intellect that can bring one to greater faith in the mysteries of God.
