Leaving the Catholic Church over sexual issues

Young people who have a strong moral code, who practice their Faith and who have a deep relationship with Christ are not having sex.
Oh really? The only way that is remotely possible is if you take any kid that does have sex out of your calculation. Then, of course, you are absolutely right.

Recently I spoke with three friends of my wife’s, all of whom say they’re considering leaving the Catholic Church - two of them said they were considering the Lutheran Church.

Their reasons?

One was in opposition to the Pope’s prohibition of condoms in Africa.
The Pope isn’t actually prohibiting the use of condoms in Africa - he has neither the power nor the authority to do that. Rather, he is reminding our Catholic missionaries on the ground there (cough D&P cough) that they shouldn’t be distributing free condoms to their clients.

Either way, though, how on earth does this affect your friends? Were they hoping to go to Africa and get free condoms from a Catholic missionary organization or aid agency? 🤷
The other two disagree with the Church’s teaching on homosexuality as a sin. One of her friends told me “I can’t believe in a God who tells me I have to hate my friends”.

Believing that homosexual unions is not how God intended us to try to reproduce is not “hate” - it’s just an honest realization of the scientific facts. Only a male and a female can come together and produce children. By means of a sacramental marriage in the Catholic Church, the children will have the strong foundation they need to become good citizens of the world, and of Heaven. 🙂

WEll I think You have your head in the sand, our young children are sexually active at very young ages, once they get a taste of sex, they arent likely to stop. Parents cannot watch over their children 24/7 & those who say they can deceive themselves. Young people are having sex, I am not saying its good, not at all, but they are having it non the less, give them protection they need it. If it takes a condom, so be it
Head in the sand? Head in the sand? You’re kidding me!

You believe that people can not control themselves. You want to teach them that they can’t control themselves.

If kids are taught they can not exercise discipline, pretty soon you’ll have children living in their parents basement well into their twenties, not taking on responsibilities, not taking their place in society, never… Oh, wait. That could never happen, could it?🤷

How do you know this?
Because, those who follow Christ live every day striving for heaven, doing their best to avoid sin. The amount of dedicated young people in our Church today must be the best kept secret in the world!

Some of you should volunteer with the youth in your Diocese, go hang out at a FOCUS event, get to know these wonderful young people.

I am absolutely sure what you are saying is 100% true. I really do. I think what Baylee is saying is, chances are that 1/4 of those kids are sexually active. Maybe a 1/3. More? Depending on the age group, who knows, but a bunch of the kids you are talking about ARE having sex. I would just hope you are aware of this… Not accepting, just aware.

You know, even if 100% of them are committing a sin, it would be further damage if I were to confirm them - encourage them - in that sin.

Yeh I do believe most people cannot control themselves, I have seen enough of it over my lifetime, 50% or more children born out of wedlock should tell you something, let alone the many abortions performed. If it weren`t for these abortions performed, the rate would probably be 70% born out of wedlock

I don’t think that the statistics support your thesis.

Marriage is not as popular as it used to be. Many couples live together without benefit of marriage on purpose and start a family on purpose without being married.

All unmarried pregnancies don’t happen to unattached women who suddenly find themselves with child.

Teenagers, who still live at home with their parents, the girl lives with her parents, he lives with his, they fornicate & conceive a baby , that usually ends up being raised by the granparents etc, usually the father wants no part of the kid & bails from the situation, only to go down the road & do the same thing, its not only Catholic couples who are living together before marriage, it`s the whole ball of wax,& your right, one size dont fit all, but there are an awful lot of children born out of wedlock who are shortchanged because of it, I have seen much in my life, do You wear blindersI have personally known two 13 yr olds who became parents, a little girl with a baby how sad, & it was as much a shame for the little boy, who fathered the child

The normal consequence of sex is making a baby.

If the people involved are not prepared to make a baby, they should be told not to. I personally do not know any teens who are pregnant. That is not pertinant.

The thrust of your discussion is that young people should be expected to have sex and can’t be stopped. If that were the case, wouldn’t there be a whole lot more teenagers pregnant? I personally know many teenage girls who are *not *pregnant.

You are so wrong, I am definitely not an advocate for teens having sex, but they are & thats the way it is. , The truth is tho that once they get involved with it, its not likely that they will stop. I don`t know where U live But I know many many cases of unwed mothers, & have seen the bad effects of it

How am I wrong? Unmarried teens should not be having sex. You have to agree with that, right?

You’ve seen the bad effects of many, many cases of unwed pregnancies, and you still want to advocate throwing condoms at all of them and telling them to have all the sex they want? That yields about a 10-30% failure rate.

Talk about being wrong.

Listen! I DO NOT APPROVE OF TEENS HAVING SEX,
But if they are going to stay sexually active, YES, give them condoms, rather then they end up in an abortion clinic, or unwanted babies are born, use your head. Again, 50% of babies are born out of wedlock, thats a lot of babies

Listen! I DO NOT APPROVE OF TEENS HAVING SEX,
Then don’t advocate that they should!

As I’ve already said, with the rise of couples just living together, there are a lot of babies born out of wedlock to couples that conceived them on purpose.

Planned Parenthood is already handing out condoms for free in all the public schools, so the kids already have easy access to them (all they have to do is walk across the street to their local public school and use the washroom to pick up as many condoms as they want) - and apparently that’s not working. 🤷

Yes we know its not working because they arent using them , they are going natural, & thats why the Birth rate among them is so high

Okay - so, if they are too shy to use condoms, then they need to be made aware that they are still not ready for sex. Right? And then at the same time, simply mention to them that sex belongs to married people who are open to the idea of having children.

Yes, & like they listen to you, right! I have never advocated any young person I ever knew to go & have sex, I was always totally against teen sex as it leads to no good outcome. But it is what it is, we cannot deny it, TEENS are having sex

And if we keep telling them so, they’ll keep doing it. Teens do whatever they think other teens are doing. If they think everyone else is celibate, they’ll be celibate, too. 🙂

If we were all living in bizzaro world where condoms were moral and premarital sex was permissable, EVEN then I would not encourage anyone to depend on a condom.

The teens I know cannot properly operate a microwave to heat a cup of water or remember to floss, let alone use a condom in the correct way.
