Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the critical reaction to the John Jay study of priestly sexual abuse:

The left-wing attack on the John Jay study proves once again that art critic Harold Rosenberg was exactly right to say that liberals represent a “herd of independent minds.” Ever since the New York Times criticized the study as the “blame Woodstock” report, the herd has swung into high gear.

they fail to write what the report says.it says the 60’s culture had an impact on the problem but the church never said that the priests weren’t guilty for what they did.It was only one of the factors that help cause the priests to go over the line.
 
The left is having a hard time believing that priests grow up just like everybody else and is influenced by the culture in which they grow up??? Seriously?

Have any of these spinmeisters attempted to look at any hard data and dispute the John Jay assertion that the surge in molester priests appears to simply reflect a surge in molestors through society in that time period?
 
Priests aren’t "born’ and grow up and are influenced by the times and the Culture,they just appear full-grown out of a puff of incense.

Sure they are influenced by culture.Many priests today and always have become liberal in their thinking due to the influence of their parishioners and society.Priests have a hard time sticking to what they know and learned in their schooling.Its one think going through the seminary and quite different when they have to face society and their parishoners who question and often disagree with the Church.Its difficult taking a hard stance when you might have to lose part of your congregation.

What’s your first hand experience or (name removed by moderator)ut? According to many priests and accounts of former seminarians, the 70’s and 80’s were a time when seminaries simply weren’t teaching the historic truths of the faith, especially in the areas of personal moral conduct. The idea of “fundamental option” was ascendent and it was considered rigid and neo-scrupulous to worry about the morality of individual actions. It’s not generally that dissident priests have strayed from their training. Mostly they were trained to be dissidents.
