Length of the Easter Vigil mass

You are too dramatic for your own good. What “draws” them back is YOU. They go when and where YOU go on that day. That’s what “draws” them back. Why do you think your 2 boys are “altar servers”? Coz YOU made them become ones. Don’t kid yourself.

Everyone, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslism, Hindis, Buudhist, Shintoist even atheist are ‘drawn’ by our Lord Jesus Chirst.

Also if one serves at the altar, that is altar server. The words still have their meaning.

The Easter Vigil Mass is 20-30 minutes. The previous Liturgy is 2 - 2 1/2 hours. My personal opinion based on long time experience is that human attention does not stretches so long. It is not an accident that theatrical performances have breaks. It would be better to separate the Holy Saturday Liturgy onto 2 or three parts, and until this is done, to shorten the readings (at least the first reading has a shortened version).

If we were talking about 2 1/2 hours of being read to, I would say you have a point, but there are so many things happening that each section is ‘new’. As for the first reading, I can’t see doing the shorter version. The story of creation is so beautiful, why deprive the faithful of it in its entirety? Last night we read Creation, Exodus & Isaiah 55. I felt short-changed by not hearing the story of Abraham & Isaac.

Easter Vigil here lasted for 2hrs 15 mins and had a baptism as well. It was beautiful and i`m so happy i got to witness and take part in this.

Sounds like your mother made you go. But I can vouch that some kids really look forward to being altar servers. My brother begged to be allowed to serve, my daughter too, and I see kids each year anxious to be old enough to serve. I don’t believe any child should be made to be a server – last thing I want to see up there is a child who doesn’t want to be there.

That was disappointing . We have a portable font which is placed on the sanctuary for baptisms so it is very public. I can see the difficulty when a church is more traditionally set-up. I think the symbolism is that baptism is literally the way of entering the church, though.

2.5 hours.

I have to say I was disappointed. The catechumens were baptized out in the vestibule where no one could see them (this is where the fount is).

So for about 15 minutes everyone in the church just stood and faced the back. We couldn’t hear or see a thing. It was obvious the families who came to support them were very disappointed.

Well now you know what to DO next time. Stop WHINING. you’re worse than cry babies put in the crying room. you are such a hypocritical goodie two shoe catholic
