We must speak out against these unholy alliances. Write your Bishops, priests, and pray, pray, pray for the protection of marriage between a man and woman.
It’s NOT judgmental or unloving to pray for someone to stop sinning. God Bless, MemawThis is why Christians are so often thought of as judgemental and unloving.
as long as that prayer is done in the spirit of loveIt’s NOT judgmental or unloving to pray for someone to stop sinning. God Bless, Memaw
Unfortunately, I think that fixing our culture’s view of marriage will be a long and difficult process, that certainly won’t be solved overnight. And the problem it isn’t just the current delusions that a marriage can be formed by two people of the same sex, and that children don’t need a mother and a father. We also have to deal with all of the following related problems:We must speak out against these unholy alliances. I am as confused as you by the replies to the OP. There is a quote that says " TOLERANCE TO EVERYTHING IS BELIEVING IN NOTHING". men and women GOD created them. YES lets keep praying for an end of gay marriage.I guess I am confused by some of the replies to the OP.
My bishop speaks in favor of laws that define marriage as “one man, one woman” and encourages Catholics in our diocese to support such.
How else is there?? God Bless, Memawas long as that prayer is done in the spirit of love
Why would we write to our bishops and priests? We must speak out against these unholy alliances. Write your Bishops, priests, and pray, pray, pray for the protection of marriage between a man and woman.
I certainly agree with this. Gay unions are not the beginning of the destruction of marriage; rather they are a result of a long line of trends that destroyed marriage.Unfortunately, I think that fixing our culture’s view of marriage will be a long and difficult process, that certainly won’t be solved overnight. And the problem it isn’t just the current delusions that a marriage can be formed by two people of the same sex, and that children don’t need a mother and a father. We also have to deal with all of the following related problems:
And before long we may have to add polygamy and group marrriages to that list.
- widespread divorce facilitated by no-fault divorce laws
- widespread use of contraception and treating children as optional accessories that have little to do with what marriage is
- 40% of children in the U.S. being conceived outside of marriage
- laws and government programs that financially penalize lower income couples if they marry, thus discouraging them from marriage
- the increasing trend of couples living together before marriage or instead of marrying
- babies being treated as commodities rather than as the product of a loving marital embrace (i.e., IVF, surrogate motherhood, sperm donation)
So we have a lot of work to do, and it will likely get worse before it gets better. I agree with you that we must pray.
Right. Once children are removed from the equation, then why can’t two (or more) people of any gender get married?I certainly agree with this. Gay unions are not the beginning of the destruction of marriage; rather they are a result of a long line of trends that destroyed marriage.
Bullet point #2 is particularly important. It was the contraceptive mentality that began the destruction of marriage by de-linking children from marriage, and it continues to undermine marriage. Catholics who bought into contraception helped to bring about gay marriage.
We can’t change what they do in private, but we don’t have to recognize it as a marriage!!. Pray our hearts out for all of it. God Bless, MemawRight. Once children are removed from the equation, then why can’t two (or more) people of any gender get married?
If this were true, then what would be the point of priests not conducting same sex weddings? You’re essentially saying that the reformist view is correct: there is no legitimate point to discriminate between heterosexual and homosexual unions. So long as the state doesn’t try to force a priest to make a gay sacramental marriage I don’t know why one should be worried about the fact that two people made a civil contract between eachother…
My best friend is transgendered and I will do everything in my power to ensure that he has the same legal rights that you enjoy. He is not “unholy”.We must speak out against these unholy alliances. Write your Bishops, priests, and pray, pray, pray for the protection of marriage between a man and woman.
I don’t think that the OP’s word choice is the right way to engage the secular culture on this issue. But to be fair and accurate, he did not refer to any of your friends or any other person as unholy. Rather, he called this type of “alliance” (i.e., a so-called same-sex marriage) unholy. My best friend is transgendered and I will do everything in my power to ensure that he has the same legal rights that you enjoy. He is not “unholy”.
My cousin is a lesbian, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that she has the same legal rights that you enjoy. She is not “unholy”.
My friends are Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, and Questioning, and you have to believe that I will fight for my friends’ civil rights with my dying breath. They are not “unholy”.
I don’t care if your church won’t marry them. I do care that our laws treat them as equal.
And this is exactly why the OP’s approach that we “speak out against these unholy alliances” is not the most effective approach. People think of themselves or those they know and tend to resent them being referred to as “unholy”. It’s not starting off the discussion on the right foot. It’s being unnecessarily combative. My best friend is transgendered and I will do everything in my power to ensure that he has the same legal rights that you enjoy. He is not “unholy”.

Weak. Try again. But to be fair and accurate, he did not refer to any of your friends or any other person as unholy. Rather, he called this type of “alliance” (i.e., a so-called same-sex marriage) unholy.
