I don’t think so. I ‘get it’, and it seems that way to me too.

Count me in too. I “get it” and I find many of your posts to be un-nessesarily harsh, argumentative and counterproductive.

This is actually a pretty good topic. If gives our brothers and sisters an opportunity to open and discuss what and how the schisms have occurred. It could be very informative for all involved. BUT
Those who have given you good thoughtful responses have just been treated to a quick “high and mighty” brushoff.
Fortunately others have taken the oportunity to become involved in the discussions in an intelligent and inviting (read Christian) manner.

Please take this in the loving manner it is intended. You will catch more converts with Love than with Confrontation.

Oh please…I’ve been more than patient enough with these people. I do not pose a high and mighty attitude, only a frustrated one when you try and explain things a hundred times and still they question. I have had many converts, I do it my way, you have your way. My way works b/c I tell it like it is and people listen.

Mate, I am still waiting for you to explain it simply to me. I did ask you to since I dont seem to “get it”.

So by all means enlighten me.

Well Charels T Russel started what became Jehovahs witnesses
…and he was one smart cookie because he never spoke to Jesus or an apostle but he figured out christianity all by himself.

Charels T russel was so impressive that God picked the Jw’s in 1914 cus they were trying so hard…but he was invisible when he did it. but we know because world war 1 started in 1914…that shows it was an important date.

Also do you remember when God told daniel to seal up the information he was given until the time of the end…well russel found it some where.

People actualy buy that ****…LOL
I guess if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.

How can you follow a man called Charles Russell? He was insane. You are so misled.

Oh ya, real smart cookies…if “Witnesses” have the truth and nothing to fear from self-investigation, why are they officially forbidden from reading any materials that cross-examine their doctrines??
If the organization did not actually prophesy the end in 1925 and 1975, then how come so many witnesses left the faith immediately afterward??
Is it not hypocritical when you chide the “poor deluded Catholic” that his faith cannot find a Bible passage to support it when the same goes for you and 1935??
Why are you called “JW” and not "Christians, since JW appeal to Isa 43:12, 44:8 for Scriptural support that they should be called “JW” then what was the new “name” prophesized in Isa 62:2?? Can’t be “JW”, for God already used it 20 chapters earlier. Could be the new name be “Christian” after our Savior “Christ”??
Why would the name God gave to His people not be “Christians” since Acts 11:26 says "The Disciples were first called Christians in Antioch? Why is the name JW found nowhere in the NT, if that is God’s divine name for His people under the new Covenant??
Why would God wait almost 2,000 years to suddenly start using the name “JW”?
Anyway, JW’s reject most of the teaching from your “God” Russell anyway.

Yea, JW’s are real smart cookies aren’t they…smarten up.

excaliber,

I LOVE your posts! Very funny!

righteousone,

You really need to lighten up! 😉

In a brief summary I could not go into all details. We can see error entering the Church even before the Apostles died. Many of the epsitles in the Bible were to correct these errors. Nothing would indicate that such errors ended with the passing of the Apostles. To my mind one major error was not totally of the Church’s doing. This was when Christianity was made the official religion of the Roman Empire. Previously people joined because of their faith and accepted the risk of persecution. This changed to a situation where people had to be Christian because the state so. Christianity is not a religion that someone can be forced to accept but that is what happened.

At this point also positions in the Church began to have political power as authorities in the state religion. This only grew as the Empire crumbled and the Church found itself filling the vacuum in political power. A number of the early disputes in the early Church were the results of personal dislikes and power plays. It could be most useful to accuse one’s oppenent of heterodox views. An example of this was the conflict between Nestorius and Cyril of Alexandria. This resulted in a split in the Church as Cyril won and the result was the Assyrian Church of the East. Talks between this Church and the Vatican now are showing that the cause of the split was blown out of proportion, partly because of the conflict bewteen the two men.
hi sycarl,

When was Christianity made the official religion of the Roman Empire? Constantine legalized Christianity after winning a war using the Christian symbol on the soldier’s shields, but that’s a far cry from making it the official religion. He didn’t even become Christian himself until he was on his deathbed.

God bless!

It was Thedosius the Great who did it in 391.

Why do I need to lighten up? I am waiting for these questions to be answered by Excalibur…:coffeeread: He is the one who is saying he is the one chosen by Christ, let’s see if he can back up what he says…doubt it. Just answer my questions, that’s it. Did I say something wrong? Prove what I say is incorrect.

That is incorrect. It wasn’t on his death bed.

form wikipedia

In 313 Constantine announced toleration of Christianity in the Edict of Milan, which removed penalties for professing Christianity (under which many had been martyred in previous persecutions of Christians) and returned confiscated Church property. Though a similar edict had been issued in 311 by Galerius, then senior emperor of the Tetrarchy,[102] Constantine’s lengthy rule, conversion, and patronage of the Church redefined the status of Christianity in the empire.

I believe that he did not die for some twenty years later.

Peace in the Lord.

Righteousone,

excaliber is an ex-jw and is being facetious! Go back and read his posts and you’ll see what I mean…

definition of facetious:
  1. not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark.
  2. amusing; humorous.
  3. lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential, amusing, or frivolous: a facetious person.

That is incorrect. It wasn’t on his death bed.
This is from www.newadvent.org:
Henceforth, Constantine was sole master of the Roman Empire. Shortly after the defeat of Licinius, Constantine determined to make Constantinople the future capital of the empire, and with his usual energy he took every measure to enlarge, strengthen, and beautify it. For the next ten years of his reign he devoted himself to promoting the moral, political, and economical welfare of his possessions and made dispositions for the future government of the empire. While he placed his nephews, Dalmatius and Hannibalianus in charge of lesser provinces, he designated his sons Constantius, Constantine, and Constans as the future rulers of the empire. Not long before his end, the hostile movement of the Persian king, Shâpûr, again summoned him into the field. **When he was about to march against the enemy he was seized with an illness of which he died in May, 337, after receiving baptism. **
