His Holiness Pope Francis . Really?
Actually yeah, really. Thanks for the clarification.

I am quite pleased they sent this letter. I come from a church which has a history of using unclear instructions as an unofficial way to permit unbiblical behavior. I take the lack of clarity and seeming unwillingness to respond to Bishops requesting clarification as a sign of great caution.

There was plenty of time before Amoris Laetitia was released to provide clarity in the document itself. In light of the synod itself causing concern due to confusing and sometimes just false information being released, and subsequently choosing to continue the lack of definitive response in spite of adamant requests, it only furthers a belief the lack of clarity is purposeful.

As confirmation, we see the German Bishops, and Bishop of Malta using the lack of definitive guidance being used as a permission in absentia as it were, to permit what has been, to this point, not permitted.

Thanks again for the post!

His Holiness Pope Francis . Really?
Really. Is it *that much *trouble to expand such abbreviations, at least in the Thread Title?

I admit, I sometimes enjoy the challenge of figuring it out without opening the thread, but mostly I am just mystified by the unnecessary obfuscation.

I thought it was either Henry Higgins or Professor Harold Hill. I love a good melody.

Exactly what is the “International Confraternities of Catholic Clergy” and what is its basis for claiming to represent thousands of priests?

Confraternity of Catholic Clergy
The Confraternity of Catholic Clergy is an association of Catholic Priests and Deacons pledged to the pursuit of personal holiness, loyalty to the Roman Pontiff, commitment to theological study and strict adherence to the authentic teachings of the Magisterium. Founded in 1975, the Confraternity seeks to implement the call of Vatican II (Presbyterorum Ordinis) for ongoing intellectual, spiritual and pastoral formation of the local clergy…

Its not clear to me that the organization referred to in the article is either of the organizations mentioned in the links (which have different names and are not international). The article does not provide a copy of the letter, so its impossible to tell what organization it is or who actually signed the letter. Based on the article, I can’t tell if this is really someone expressing the concerns of a large group or not.

Here is a link to the same site that was listed in the Wikipedia Article, the Irish Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, as was mentioned in the NC Register article. They have linked to the letter HERE, and on their home page:

EDIT

Here’s Australia’s too:

There are several Confraternity of Catholic Clergy organizations, all related. Ireland has one, the UK, the US, Australia, Canada, Italy, etc…

Together, they are the International Confraternities of Catholic Clergy.

The US numbers about 800 priests and deacons, so, combined with other nations,‘thousands’ sounds about right.

OK, thanks. I agree that thousands sounds about right. Still not sure what this means, but at a minimum it is another voice in the conversation.
