levada sounds like a hypocrite; het did the same thing himself:
Archbishop William Levada, …, acknowledged he had allowed three children to be placed in gay households during his 10 years as archbishop of San Francisco. But yesterday he declared that no bishop should permit children to be placed with gays.
it sounds like he was pressured by the pope to change his views. it is never ok to let a child be adopted by gays. the end can’t justify the means if the act is intrinsically wrong. this contradicts what the vatican has said about the issue:
Allowing children to be adopted by persons living in such unions would actually mean doing violence to these children, in the sense that their condition of dependency would be used to place them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development. This is gravely immoral and in open contradiction to the principle, recognized also in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, that the best interests of the child, as the weaker and more vulnerable party, are to be the paramount consideration in every case.
i don’t think levada is the right guy for this job.

I was uneasy about this appointment too… but perhaps it is B16’s way of bringing him back in line. At least this action takes moral position… let’s see if there is follow-up and enforcement.

Well we’ve heard about Boston and now SF, what’s going on in other diocese in the U.S. Is Boston and San Francisco the only two that have allowed same-sex couple adoption or is it that we just don’t hear about the other places?

If you keep doing something while telling others it’s wrong, then you are a hypocrite. If you change, it means you’ve repented and reformed. We should encourage that.

I agree with MrS. Maybe the Pope brought him to Rome to bring him back in line on a few issues and help influence others to change as well.

I would’ve agreed with you before, but after a couple of positive remarks he made about homosexulity that are in line w/ Church’s teachings, I think he has redeemed himself. As long as he has shown himself to do something right, I say give him a chance.

Maybe Benedict knows what he’s doing when he choose Levada to head the CDOF…

Just like in Boston, this issue needs to be addressed. Hopefully we’ll see some momentum to stop this practice by Catholic charities. Let’s pray that all the bishops will be courageous and speak the truth in love.

Exactly. Who better to bring the American Church into line that someone who has credibility within the circle needing correction.

Further evidence of the Hand of Providence acting in the Church.

The change of heart of Archbishop Levada on this subject is also reason why when we believe our Bishop might be in error we shouldn’t characterize his motives or heart with evil like descriptors. All that can be at work is insufficient knowledge or a misunderstanding of the desire of the Holy Spirit. With our concerted prayers and support, we can assist the work of the Holy Spirit.
