A woman may have a right to control HER body, but from the moment of conception the fetus is a unique entity. If it were the woman’s body, it would have her DNA and blood type. Yet at the moment of conception the fetus has a unique DNA profile. After about 18 days the child has a beating heart, and at about 21 days it has its own blood type.It is true the fetus has rights, but it is also true the pregnant woman has a right to control her own body. The question is how we can balance these two rights.
This issue is so divisive that there is really no way to settle it or to argue about it in a reasonable way.
But luckily for all us, the Christ will be returning to earth very soon - maybe in less than a year. Then he can tell us how we can balance the rights of a fetus and the rights of a woman with an unwanted pregnancy. Just don’t be too sure that he will agree with you a 100 percent.
So at what point do we cease to view the child as part of the woman’s body?
$100 is high for S&H ? Organs have to be carefully frozen and hand carried - they are not dropped at the nearest post office. I don’t know which part of the world you live in that you think that $100 is a high price for anything in the health care industry.
Abby Johnson, pro-life advocate and former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic, testified before the Texas Senate committee on Health and Human Services. Her remarks start at around 2:30:00.The fee was apparently between $30 and $100. For a body part that amount as far as I can tell is nominal. This is hardly a money making business.
To summarize: her clinic charged the biotech firm $200 per specimen, while shipping & handling costs were only about $5-10 per specimen. Sometimes the firm would send representatives to pick up the specimen, meaning there was no cost to the clinic.
She estimated the clinic could make at least $120,000 per year in PROFITS through this arrangement.
Now we can say this is one director of one clinic partnering with one firm, and try to say the relationship might be different elsewhere, but that’s just ignoring the issue.
