As most of you are aware by now, there is scarecely a phrase in the English language as horrific as “Social Justice”. It brings up images of enormously expensive failed social programs, illogical immigration policies, revolving door justice for violent felons, and hiring and promotion of unqualified minorities.
A few decades ago a mutant form of Christianity developed called the “social gospel” that seemed to embody these principles. The effect in most mainstream protestant churches was that the church split into a “conservative” and a “Liberal” branch, for example, the LCMS and the ELC in my denomination.
Another effect of this was an enormous decline in church attendace as people decided to either stop going to church or seek a denomination that kept itself clean of political issues.
To what effect has this changed the Catholic Church? Has it seen a split into :Conservative” and ‘Liberal” parishes?
