A rotten individual can come out of a great family with great parenting just as a good and holy person can come out of the most dysfunctional family. There are no set rules. But we are in the age of narcissism and an age which goes against Christian morality. Unfortunately, in spite of things, people are going to do what they want. Those who made the decision were adults. They have the free will to accept or reject the teachings of the Church on that issue. Better catechesis is needed to hopefully reverse the trend. We’ve lost two generations already due to very poor teaching of the Faith.Excuse me for saying so but I think that you are kind of begging the question. It’s kind of like a parent allowing a child to do something that would be very bad for her with the excuse that she might do it anyway when the parent’s back is turned. I consider that quite bad parenting.
