The ACLU has again asked the Obama administration to force Catholic and other religiously-affiliated hospitals to do abortions in cases where the mother’s life is supposedly in danger.

The new letter to the federal government is the second the pro-abortion legal group has sent and this one concerns the debate over the controversial abortion a Phoenix-based Catholic hospital did. The abortion earned the medical center condemnation from Bishop Thomas Olmsted, who decided this week to revoke the Catholic status of the hospital.

“This confrontation never should have happened in the first place, because no hospital– religious or otherwise– should be prohibited from saving women’s lives and from following federal law,” the ACLU letter said.

I’ve about had it up to here points at scalp with them. What about the civil liberty to freedom of religion?

This is just awful. My question is this: Why do we never hear about these types of attacks at Mass? We need to motivate the faithful against this sort of encroaching wickedness.
 
A couple of observations:
first, the ACLU request to the administration came on the heels if Bishop Olmstead’s decision to strip an AZ hospital if their Catholic status for approving and performing an abortion.
Second, catholic healthcare serves (according to at least one estimate) 1 in every 6 Americans.
Third, the AZ republic printed (today) a profile on the Bishop that highlighted his fidelity to Church teaching, and mentioned the dissenters who object to his rulings. The only positive aspect if his governance of the diocese (according to the article) has been his efforts to protect and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children within the community.

Essentially, AZ bishop scares abortion rights proponents, and the size and scale of Catholic healthcare in this country is too significant for them to ignore. To promote their agenda they will do whatever they can…
 
The ACLU is showing America it’s true convictions. The ACLU is showing itself to be a true Anti Catholic and Atheist organisation by its actions. If the country doesn’t wake up and counter the ACLU we who are left will be without “liberties” and only those selected by the ACLU will retain their “liberties”.
 
So the Anti-Christian Looney Union wants the Obama Administration to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions. Even if they succeed in getting the Administration to do it, all that has to be done is get the Bishops to remove the Catholic designation from every one of them and if this takes place before 2012, then Sarah Palin would be an absolute LOCK to be the next President!!
 
Challenge them to a public debate over the issue. It would be good for the Christian public at large in the U.S seeing Catholics at the forefront of defending life, while being exposed to sound Catholic doctrine on the sanctity and dignity of human life.

As an aside, does anyone else like how the ACLU has adopted the Imperial Presidency mentality ? They didn’t take any legal actions at all, instead they ran to the POTUS who apparently can decree at whim and will who will and will not be forced to perform abortions. Sounds more like the actions of flattering courtiers than those of civil rights lawyers.
