Lifeteen Mass - Why Are They Given A Pass on Reverence?

Would you be playing that instrument at the foot of Calvary at Christ’s sacrifice for mankind? We are taken back to that timeless moment during the consecration. Think about this when you decide on an instrument, that’s what I would be doing anyway.

I doubt I would have hauled out the pipe organ at Calvary either. That argument leads to a Capella music only.

It shouldn’t be hard to show a video of a life teen Mass that the majority of people that view it would say it is reverent. Someone find a video and post a poll and see if most people vote reverent or not reverent. I bet you 100% of videos you find on the EF Mass would be voted by the majority as reverent. It wouldn’t be as easy, buy certainly not difficult to find OF Mass videos that the majority would vote reverent. I am asking to see one of a life teen Mass. I am only a decade older then the kids life teen is supposed to appeal to. In my opinion life teen is teaching a whole new generation of Catholics to worship like protestants.

This is very true. My teens would not care for a regular diet of Lifeteen Masses, but as someone who has worked with teens since I graduated from college, I know that many, many teens do feel draw to that style.

We talk on other threads about the draw of the evangelical youth groups and I think everyone can truthfully say they know teens and young adults who say they “don’t get anything out of Mass” and that the other church is more “uplifting or fun”. Yes, I agree that that being i=entertained isn’t what church is really all about, but if the teens aren’t coming at all to the “solemn, reverent” Masses, then it isn’t doing them any good.

Lifeteen is something like a ‘gateway drug’ to hard-core Catholicism.

This is easliy explained in lifeteens motto “leading teens closer to Christ” Lifeteens goal is to serve the underchurched and unchurched. It’s format, discussions and teachings do assume that kids dont know the basics. For 95% of the kids thats true. They dont know basic bible stories, they dont know squat about Mass and they know zero moral teaching. I learned more in 1 year of lifeteen than in the 8years of post 1st communion CCD.

For that last 5% who do know what the church teaches they are simply welcome as leaders. Still based on the lack of knowlege and the once a week format most teens in LT only get there after 3 or 4 years.

For those who walk into the program with alot of knowledge they are not well served by Lifeteen. This is the unfortunate side. Some parishes compensate by putting those teens in leadership roles. Others go above and beyond and host a deeper youth group like “dead theologians society”. Unfortunatly, having the critical mass…atleast a half dozen…dosnt often happpen.

Society is not the way it is because of Lifeteen, but lifeteen is the way it is because of society. Its one of the only groups that has the ability to keep post-confirmation kids in Church. Many good vocations and marriages have come out of the participants. It also helps the average layman reach teens with its nationwide support and “core” princible centered in prayer.

Nothing will reach every teen. But Lifeteen does its mission and does it well.

I think if “solemn, reverent” Masses were all over the place I would agree with you. Most kids these days have never seen such. It took 29 years of my life before I saw what I considered a solemn, reverent Mass(OF) and got to experience my first EF Mass.

If you can reference a post where I said that someone was lying, by all means do so.

I was under the impression saying that while people claim to have seen them, no one can produce evidence that they actually exist would imply the following:

1. you doubt that a reverent lifeteen mass actually exists (since you liken it to an abonimable snowman)
2. therefore, you think that those who claim to have seen a reverent lifeteen mass are speaking something which is not truth (aka, lying).

No, you’re not blatantly saying anyone is lying, but you’re implying that the claims of the several who say they have seen a reverent lifeteen mass are like the claims of those who say they’ve seen bigfoot.

That’s great. I say that the claims of those who believe they have seen clown masses are the same, since youtube videos can be faked. In fact, I can even go so far as to say that these clown masses were staged by traditionalists with an anti-OF agenda… but all that does is obstructs attempts to discuss and deal with ACTUAL problems like real liturgical abuse.
