šŸæšŸæ:popcorn:It’s out this Friday. Don’t know when we will see it downunder.

CAL THOMAS WASHINGTON POST:** ā€œThere are classic films, like the ones on TCM and AMC, and there are modern films. There are few modern classics. ā€œLittle Boy,ā€ in theaters April 24, could be a modern classic.ā€**

A movie about faith and the love that binds sons to their fathers. Tim Staples Catholic Answers contributor makes an appearance as a soldier visiting two wounded soldiers. Cast includes Emily Watson, Michael Rappaport, Tom Wilkinson and Jakob Salvanti as Pepper.

Little Boy is about 7yo Pepper whose father has just been drafted and sent off to Europe during WWII. A devastated Pepper makes a promise to find a way to end the war and bring his father home.

ā€˜In church he hears the Priest quoting Jesus that if one has faith as tiny as a mustard seed, one can move mountains. Pepper goes to a seed store, finds a mustard seed and takes it to the priest to learn more. When the priest is frustrated by Pepper’s questions, another priest, Father Oliver (Tom Wilkinson), takes over. Father Oliver gives Pepper a list of what he must do as part of a process he hopes will end the war and bring his father home. He is instructed to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit someone in prison — with one addition. There is a man of Japanese ancestry, named Hashimoto (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa). Though he is a U.S. citizen, everybody in town hates him because of the propaganda directed at Japan following its attack on Pearl Harbor. Father Oliver tells Pepper to make friends with him’.

Thanks Savingrace,

I just looked up the trailer.
looks great, I can’t wait for it to arrive down here.
:tiphat:

This movie provides us with more insight on how the Catholic Church can have a positive impact on the world. Also how we can help others. Even if it is just visiting someone to make them feel accepted. šŸ™‚

Little Boy was also the codename for the type of atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.

Yes, all the tasks given to Pepper by Fr Oliver is something we as christians should be striving to do also.

I have doubts about this film making it to my city, which doesn’t tend to show films of a religious nature. For instance, the film, ā€œFor Greater Gloryā€ didn’t show here at all, instead it was shown only in the outlying suburbs. Oh well. I hope to see it when it comes out on video.

The actor Tom Wilkinson would make an excellent priest, as he did on ā€œThe Exorcism of Emily Rose.ā€ He was very believable.

I hope everyone gave this the really great opening weekend that it deserves and needs in order to stay in theatres.

I was prevented from seeing it today due to my friend’s scheduling. We’re going to see it on Wednesday. I am very excited to!

ā€œWe see this as an American story, with a universal message, that happens to have been made by Mexicans,ā€ said Verastegui, the son of a sugar-cane farmer and former model, who hails from a village in northern Mexico called Xicotencatl.

The movie is ā€œalmost a tribute to that whole Norman Rockwell side of America. … If people have to label this movie, they can start there.ā€

Test screenings have been good, he said, and that includes the kind of spiritual reactions that don’t show up in endorsement quotes in advertisements.

"You may hear from someone who says, ā€˜This movie helped me forgive my father.’ Or maybe it’s, ā€˜This movie made me want to spend more time with my family,’ or ā€˜This movie helped me decide to keep my baby,’ or ā€˜This movie made me want to help the poor and the needy.’

ā€œIf people are going to say things like that after seeing this film, then thanks be to God. That will be our Oscar. … We are very open about our goals: We want to tell a story that brings some healing and unity and hope and charity. That’s the deal.ā€

Apparently by the end of Friday U.S. time the film had made an estimated $1,350,000 at 1,045 theaters with Saturday and Sunday to come.

That doesn’t sound very good.
No even with the entire weekend takings in it’s not good for the movie. I was hoping christians would support it.

Little Boy debuted all the way down in 13th place with an estimated $2.83 million. The modestly budgeted family comedy from Open Road earned a respectable per-location average of $2,708 from 1,045 locations.

Little Boy was especially front-loaded this weekend; the film opened with $1.35 million on Friday, decreased an alarming 41 percent on Saturday to gross $0.80 million and is estimated to fall 15 percent on Sunday to gross $0.68 million. That gives the film an estimated opening weekend to Friday ratio of just 2.10 to 1, which isn’t a good early sign for the film going forward.

Do you think they realized the title they gave the movie was the same as the name as the bomb dropped on Hiroshima? I read a little about the movie.
