Ann of Green Gables is another great series of books that was turned into a good tv show. I think that it was shown on PBS.
Anne of Green Gables was my all time fav series of books as a kid, and I bought the tv show on DVD. I highly recommend it!

I’m a LHOTP fan tooooooooooo! 😃

It took 2 yrs to get the DVD’s of the TV series, I just need season 9, now 😛

Yes, it would be great if all the shows on TV now days were of the same purity of Little House. But look on the bright side, if they were, we’d all be couch potatoes, wouldn’t we? 😃 The good thing about there not being much worth watching on TV is that we spend our time doing more and sitting less.

Another show that my brother and I used to watch when we were little was the Cosby Show (the original). That was nice, clean, and entertaining!

John Ennis, is your wife in the car business?

My children loved L.H. on the Prairie. An aside, I saw “Nellie” on some show as a spokeswoman for children of sex. abuse. She was such a victim for years.

I love Little House on the Prairie - in fact, just last week after watching an episode (it’s on Hallmark and TV Land here in NY) I said to my husband that it’s the greatest show ever on TV that wasn’t a comedy (I love the honeymooners and I love lucy), but then again, Mrs. Olson was a riot and made me laugh and cry. I love the episode entitle 'Man Inside" about the overweight father who was an embarrassment to his daughter. Made me cry. Also, the one entitle “Anabelle” - she was the fat lady in the circus and also Mr. Olson’s sister (he tried to hide it because he was ashamed of her). Of course, the ending was a tearjerker. I love the episode with Percival when Nellie fell in love with him. A real riot. Also, when Mrs. Olson would not ride with the little African American boy and she couldn’t stand the fighter who fell in love with the teacher in the blind school (can’t remember their names). It was just an unbelieveable show and I will always love it. maryann

I loved the Little House series. It is my favorite show, and I have all the DVDs. I loved the books just as much. It’s interesting to read the books and to take note of how much the world has changed since the late 1800’s. Our society acts like we are so smart because we have so much technology, cures for diseases, and other such advancements. But if you read the Little House books, I think the people were smarter than people nowadays. They were smart enough to know that God was in charge. They had morals. In one of her books, Laura mentions how her hair had gotten really long, and Carrie comments on how pretty Laura’s hair is. For just a few seconds, Laura admires how attractive her hair is, but then she pushes that thought out of her mind because she does not want to be vain. How things have changed!! These days, there are entire TV programs and books dedicated to self-improving your image. How vain people have become!! In her books, Almanzo and Laura did not share their first kiss until after they were engaged. Nowadays, people do way more than that before they even know one another’s last names. And even though the girls attended a small school, the things they were required to learn were far more than I was ever expected to learn in school. Children did a lot more at home, also. Laura and her family had to know many skills just for survival. Food was made from scratch, they raised their own animals, Pa made his own bullets, Ma made straw hats, and all the girls knew how to sew. Nowadays children do not learn practical skills such as these. The wonderful thing about these stories is that the entire family worked together with the help of God to survive. Yes, our society has made many advancements in the past 100 years. But after reading Laura’s books, I realized how much we have lost. Our society’s values (or lack thereof) have changed.

My grandchildren are asking about going there for a vacation…🙂 When they read and watched the *Anne of Green Gables *series…they went to Canada to visit the lands where is was to have taken place…(my father’s side of the family comes from there)🙂
I want to do that! I’ve wanted to visit Prince Edward Island since I was 10. And I’d love to visit Walnut Grove or De Smet. Hmm, maybe DH and I need to do a road-trip…

I have such a list of books that I want my kids to have. All of the Little House series, anything by L.M. Montgomery, all of the *Wrinkle in Time *books, and when they’re a bit older, all seven books in the Tillerman cycle (*Dicey’s Song, A Solitary Blue,*etc.), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Jane Austen’s books. Oh, I was such a bookworm as a child, and still am. I hope my kids love books, too.

You’ll have to excuse my ignorance…

So the Little House On the Prairie show was based off of real people?

I thought it was fictional???
Laura Ingalls Wilder was not fiction but some of the shows are fiction. Larua wrote about her life and Almanzo’s life. The later shows are pretty fiction.According to the books I read on their lives later.

This is another dream trip of mine. In fact when my husband was working in North Carolina I would take the kids and jump on the BLue Ridge and every day we would drive and I always hoped to get to Walton’s mountain. But then the clock would say 5:00 and it would be time to turn around and head back. But we did find some great places to visit. My sister has went there quite a few times and brought me back some Walton souveneirs.

Technology had a lot to do with the world’s demise.
