The University of Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture will award the 2016 Notre Dame Evangelium Vitae Medal to Mother Loraine Marie Maguire and the Little Sisters of the Poor.
“For more than 175 years, the Little Sisters of the Poor have dedicated their lives to humble service of the most vulnerable among us,” said O. Carter Snead, William P. and Hazel B. White Director of the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture. “Their work and witness embody the goods at the heart of the Evangelium Vitae Medal. Their unwavering defense of the unborn in the HHS mandate litigation alongside their longstanding work to care for the elderly poor offers a beautiful and powerful witness to the unique, inviolable dignity of every person, from conception to natural death. Their work is a testament to the radical solidarity and hospitality at the core of the Gospel of Life.”
Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., said: "We are delighted to award this medal to the Little Sisters of the Poor to honor them for their inspiring efforts to build a culture of life where every member of the human family is welcomed and embraced. They are most deserving of this year’s Evangelium Vitae Medal.”

New Improved Notre Dame

:newidea: - C’mon by! We’re Catholic (Again)!

I remember CAF’ers praying for Notre Dame and ^ this University President back when the U.S.'s foremost abortion proponent (and U.S. President) was getting an honorary doctorate for something or other … while 86 year old Father Norman Weslin and former Ambassador to the U.N. Alan Keyes were being arrested elsewhere on campus for praying a pro-life rosary!

youtube.com/watch?v=iiz4tfjSuPc < The late Fr. Weslin :gopray2: disgracefully arrested May 15, 2009. When I hear him sing “Immaculate Mary” on the campus named for her …
I about lose it. :sad_yes::crying:

But maybe the seeds of that soft martyrdom have taken root.

The Little Sisters, persecuted by the administration of the man who became “Doctor Obama of Notre Dame” and the graduation speaker on that 5/15/2009 day – are NOW held in honor at Notre Dame.

This beats the heck out of another run of “The Vagina Monologues” on campus I’d say.

Later in 2009 the run of the Vagina Monologues at Notre Dame was ended (after complaints by Bishop D’Arcy). In 2013 12 other “Catholic Universities” were still hosting it.

Bellarmine, Holy Cross, U. of San Francisco, Loyola of Chicago,
Dominican U., Georgetown U., St. Mary’s College (CA), Seattle U.,
Siena Heights U., Detroit-Mercy U., Xavier U., St. Louis U.

BUT NOT Notre Dame! Maybe Notre Dame HAS changed for the better!

Honoring the Little Sisters at this time is certainly a step in the right direction. 🙂
