Liturgical Abuses depressing me

Is it all the masses that this is occurring, or are you attending a “teen mass”?

At a couple churches (at least) here in Tucson, AZ, have teen/youth masses where everything is geared for that age group, and yes, you have flip flops and t-shirts–even the Eucharistic Ministers and Altarboys/girls are in this “dress”.

It irritates me to the point where I don’t go to these specific Masses. Although hand-holding doesn’t bother me and even our priests at the Newman Center at U of A where Birkenstocks!

You may want to go at a different Mass time or find another church.

So, do you think the irritation you feel is something you should overcome or do you think it’s a progression in your spiritual life where you are more sensitive to liturgy?
 
Sounds like the work of the Enemy to me, distracting you, keeping your thoughts on wordly things rather than heavenly things.
 
To all the self-righteous self-appointed liturgical police who seem to focus at Mass on finding abuses by priests and wrong postures and movements by the congregation instead of giving 100% attention to Christ, I am reminded of something St John Of the Cross said in Dark Night of the Soul:

“Some souls suffer from another kind of spiritual anger. They watch over others with a kind of restless fervor, perpetually annoyed by the transgressions they perceive. The impulse arises to reprove in an angry way. Sometimes they even indulge this nasty urge, elevating themselves as masters of virtue. This is all quite contrary to spiritual meekness.”

Again—both

It is a good exercise in charity and tolerance to let little things go in any situation. We can all “grow in finicky”, if we allow it. If the priest is doing something out of order in his celebration of the Mass, and you have asked about this, there is not much else you can do unless you wish to write the Bishop.

Try another Mass, or if that is no better, another parish. If this is not possible or practical, try to concentrate on the Mass, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and help you to be open to His peace.

(I’m speaking to myself, as well as you. I need help is this area, too 😉 )
