Ditto to the above post. I really hope the Holy Father performs a TLM himself during his reign.

I’m sure that the Holy Father will approve whatever the Sui Juris Church Authorities decide. But I don’t know why thay would and wouldn’t expect that they will be making any changes.
Sorry, I dropped out for a while.

I agree with you - that is the point I was trying to make. I get a bit frustrated with those who seem to identify the Catholic Church with the Roman rite, and make grandiose statements that should be specific to the Roman rite.

So how will this effect the church’s excommunication of the Lefebvreists, the Society of Saint Pius X?

Do you suppose the excommunication may be lifted? After all, isn’t this what they are trying to do anyway?

Subrosa
It probably won’t have much effect, if any. One needs to keep in mind that JP2 himself made that statment to the effect that he was, in hindsight, perhaps to pastoral. He tried every which way but loose to work with Lefebvre.

One also needs to keep in mind who was head of the congregation which had most contact with Lefebvre; considering that he had a hand in the excommunication process, one would have to ask why he would be particularly quick to life it.

Hmmm…in regards to the original question of this thread, I think that Benedict the XVI is already putting in orthodox priests and bishops into higher places, so that the orthodox Catholics leaders will overcome the liberal Catholic leaders in the future. I also think that he will make sure that the USCCB doesn’t pull a fast one on him, and will be very strict as to what he will accept in the new Missal, and other liturgical changes.
Overall, I think it’s the people he will appoint who will have orthodox liturgical reforms, because B16 can’t put a stop to straying parishes all over the world, even if he did order them to stop abusing the liturgy! But the bishops can…
But I really do hope that he will allow the priests to celebrate the TLM freely without special permission. There are so many faithful Catholics out there who have two choices; parishes that abound in liturgical abuses, and a TLM. At least they can attend a TLM and not have to worry about any abuses going on, so they can focus on Christ in the Eucharist more. But I don’t know if that will happen. Or at least I hope that the SSPX mass becomes approved by the Vatican (and vice versa!) so that traditional Catholics won’t have to travel so far to go to a vatican approved TLM when they have an SSPX mass close by!
