But I absolutely LOVE “Lamb of God.”

I think I will include it in my personal devotions. Honestly, I think it is as beautiful as the Divine Mercy chant.

Yes, I agree. I think the “Agnus Dei” is the best part of that mass setting.
 
As a teenager, I attended a parish where the organist used either the Jesuit Mass or Mass of Creation almost exclusively. There were descants used with the Mass of Creation. I have no idea if they were embellishments added by the organist/choir director, or were suggested descants. I just know I was one of two people whose “job” it was to sing those lines.

The Kyriale contains the eighteen musical settings for the order of the Latin Mass (the Kyrie, the Gloria, the Sanctus, and the Angus Dei), six settings for the Credo (Credo III is by far my favorite), and one setting each for the Asperges Me Dominie and the Vidi Aquam. I have a question about Mass settings to anyone who knows about the subject. Some time ago I saw a video of an Easter Solemn High Mass from 1941 narrated by Fulton Sheen. One of the titles in the beginning said that it was the “Mass of Christ the King” composed by Edwin D. Dover. It isn’t included in the Kyriale, but I loved that mass setting, particularly the Credo and the Victimae paschali laudes if anybody had any info on it, I would love to hear.
 
If the mass parts could be sung just by the choir, I’d love to hear mass settings like these:

Actually, I’ve only been to one Latin Mass in my life, which was a few weeks ago. The closest one is about an hour to an hour and a half away and I don’t have my license yet so my parents would have to take me. They weren’t very thrilled with the Latin Mass when we went so they probably won’t ever take me again. Even when I do get my license, I won’t go to Mass without my family because it just feels awkward. I’ll just go to the Novus Ordo when they go and probably just wait until I graduate from HS and get out of the house to go to the Latin Mass on my own.

I forget how young you are. You sound a lot older. Not old and weary. Just older. 🙂
 
I don’t particularly care for either of them however, the Mass of Glory is definitely the worse of the two.

Most mass settings leave a good deal to be desired in my view. Having said that, there are individual songs in certain settings that I actually do enjoy when done well. The Gloria from the Mass of Light is good when it is done with organ and bells which they do in my parish. I balled my eyes out during Easter Vigil when the choir started in with that one. I also like the Sanctus from the Mass of Creation but am not enamored with the rest of the setting.

These are all very beautiful. I have sung the Tallis and Byrd.

Do you know as long as I’ve heard the Kyrie sung by the congregation at mass, I had no idea it was Duruffle.

How about Bach’s Mass in B minor? I suppose Crucifixus is not part of the mass?

However, it is so beautiful, I almost died when I first sang it with my choir.

I voted neither because I also prefer Greagorian chant at Mass. I had no clue what Mass of Glory or Mass of Creation were until I had heard them. I do prefer Creation over Glory though. Our parish uses Creation and I thought that sounded “protestant”. The Mass of Glory sounds a lot worse to me though. When will we ever have Catholic sounding music in a Catholic church? 🤷

Mass of Creation sounds Protestant because the composer, Marty Haugen, is not Catholic. He is Protestant. What makes Mass of Creation problematic is the fact that he takes liberties with the official texts of the Church, namely the Sanctus and the Agnus Dei. Furthermore, the responsorial Gloria is something that documents like Liturgicam Authenticam strongly discourage.

Mass of Glory should not, in my opinion, be included in any song book that claims Catholic affiliation. In my opinion, it goes against Liturgiam Authenticam and Sacramentum Caritatis. The form is not fitting for the Mass, not at all.

I have always LOVED the B-minor mass. His compositions were just absolutely incredible. It sometime makes my brain hurt (in a good way) when I really listen to his music. 🙂
When I was a senior in high school, I garnered up enough guts to audition for District Choir and got in. One of the pieces we did was the “Crucifixus”. The orchestral part to me always reminded me of the continual pounding of the nails into Christ’s hands and feet. It has always made me cry. Doing that, along with the other music we performed in the concert was what changed my goals in life to become a professional classical musician.
 
I’m writing my own Mass setting for local Franciscans… so… neither! They both stink. I hate them with a passion. 😃
