Thats great.I bought mine on Ebay and paid about 75$, a great deal! And they were brand new.![]()
True, but I do the entire LOTH, including the Office of Readings. The Office of Readings, having its origin in the lengthy night prayer of Vigils in monasteries, is a true treasure in itself, especially if prayed as Vigils in the early morning or wee hours of the night.I’d like to point out again however, that for most Catholics, the single volume, Christian Prayer The Liturgy of the Hours, is all they’ll ever need.
Few of us have time to do the complete Office of the Readings on a daily basis. Instead, we generally do Morning and Evening Prayer, and there is no difference between the two.
In fact, one advantage of the single volume is that it includes the music to the hymns. The 4 Volume does not.
The single volume new is around $35.
So, don’t let the cost of the 4-volume set stop you from getting into the Liturgy of the Hours.
The LOTH is a treasure that shouldn’t be missed.

I got really lucky at an antique co-op and found the one volume The Office of Readings published by the Daughters of St Paul in 1983 for $20 and its in great condition.I’d like to point out again however, that for most Catholics, the single volume, Christian Prayer The Liturgy of the Hours, is all they’ll ever need.

That’s great, but I would advise that people stick with the Christian Prayer, The Liturgy of the Hours, by Catholic Book Publishing.I got really lucky at an antique co-op and found the one volume The Office of Readings published by the Daughters of St Paul in 1983 for $20 and its in great condition.
With that and Christian Prayer I am set.
Well those and the Carmelite Proper.
I agree, get what the group uses. That’s great, but I would advise that people stick with the Christian Prayer, The Liturgy of the Hours, by Catholic Book Publishing.
The reason being is that their breviaries are the most commonly used and should you ever find yourself joining a group that prayers the Divine Office, you’ll more than likely have the same version.
A woman showed up at our OCDS group with the version by the Daughters of St. Paul.
She was not able to use it with our group when we did Evening Prayer.
Most priest in the USA have the 4volume set by the Catholic Book Publishing company.
