Help! I’m lost! I have the 4-volume liturgy of the hours… what volume are we in and what week are we in??? Thanks so much and God bless!

I can never remember the number in the series (except Advent/Christmas is I). I think it’s volume 2. Weeks 1-18 of Ordinary Time. Thursday of week 14 in Ordinary Time.

Book 1: Advent/Christmas.
Book 2: Lent/Easter.
Book 3: Ordinary Time weeks 1 to 17. (We are currently in week 14 so THIS is the book you should be in.)
Book 4: Ordinary Time weeks 18-34.

I confess that I use the One volume set now but hope in the future to get the 4 volume set. When I do get it I want to be ready!

Oh. And don’t forget to check the Proper of Saints towards the back of the book. Tomorrow, July 11, is the obligatory memorial of St. Benedict.

July 11th is my birthday YIPPEEE! I’m a novice Benedictine Oblate with Pluscarden Abbey here in Scotland so tomorrow will be an extra speical day ~ only I can’t get to the Abbey, sadly.
I have the Divine Office For Dodos!!! It’s a great book but I do wish that she wouldn’t talk so dummy-ummy at the reader. That’s my only gripe hahaha! Other then that it’s a fantastic book and I’m slowly working my way through.

Madeline is a really good writer with an excellent sense of humor even if at times it isn’t ‘everybody’s cup of tea’.
I do encourage anyone who has read DODOs to explore Madeline’s group The Confraternity of Penitents. (www.penitents.org)). She has written some excellent articles you can find through the site, and the group itself, its charism etc. is well worth considering, as a full member or as an associate or well-wisher.

St. Joseph Guide for Liturgy of the Hours. It costs around $3.00 and lists what pages you should be on for each day.

Also make sure you pick up the one for the current year. I made that mistake once. In January I picked up 3 copies, 1 for me and 2 to give to others. 2 of the copies were from the previous year :blushing: I guess I only looked close at the one copy and assumed the ones behind it were the same.

I just got the 3 Volume Divine Office there from my priest as a random gift and I have been struggling with it. I know we are in the 14th Week of Ordinary Time, but what week for the Psalter? 1,2,3 or 4?

i only got three as this version does all of them in 3.

I don’t know if this is different in the US from the UK, but the St. Joseph Guide for the LOH has it different than you state for Morning Prayer:
Invitatory - St. Benedict
3 Psalms and canticles - Friday Week II
Reading, Responsory - Friday Week II
Canticle of Zechariah antiphon - St. Benedict
Intercessions - Friday Week II
Prayer - St. Benedict
It seems if your book says to use Sunday for the psalms, is the Feast of St. Benedict a solemnity in your country? That’s the only way Sunday psalms would be used. In the US July 11 is a Memorial.
Also, there are on intercessions for Common of Religious in the US. And the only parts in the July 11 Memorial of St. Benedict Proper of Saints are the Canticle of Zechariah and the closing Prayer.
The 4 week Psalter is used for Psalms in all cases except Feasts and some non-Sunday solemnities.

It’s a memorial but what it states under the date is “common of holy men” p 1414. The common of holy men has the psalms and canticles of Sunday morning week 1, so that’s what I followed.
I’ve only been doing this for about 8 months so I’m sure I make mistakes now and then and this could be one of them. Should probably check Universalis for U.S. to see what they used. I used to use Magnificat magazine until I bought the LOTH and of course they were always spot on. Thanks for giving me the heads up!
