Yes, a good article and additionally, as the author says, this is not new information.

I read this years ago in this book.

Yes, a lot of the famines over there have been manmade. The article mentions the dictatorship of Mengistu, the dictatorship itself was called the Derg:

Now, that same book seemed to say that “man-made” famines in that region were not rare. It almost led me to ponder whether that the prior ruler, the highly venerated by many, Haile Sellasie’s government could possibly have taken part in such acts as well. I’d have to consult an expert to find out.

I’m also getting some hits on this on the net, I will have to research this thoroughly later. I do see articles that the ruler-ship of King Selassie refused to admit famine was sweeping across the nation in the early 1970s.

Apparently, history has more of this than we have been told.

The articles were from 1986, so it’s not new at all. I remember seeing last year’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and it’s hagiograhic treatment of the concert (arguably my generations “Woodstock”). It’s a harsh reminder that for all the hype and good feeling, the people that were supposed to have benefited from the concert were actually made much worse off by it.
