Tell me do some people go months or even years without masturbation, is this true? Or do most bring this to the confession box.

It is true. With a valid confession and a sincere desire to stop, one can be free of this sin.
 
Yes. The longer you go without it, the easier it becomes to avoid it.

Yes its actually not that difficult providing you avoid cause for temptation (ie don’t look at naked ladies on the tv or internet) and receive the sacraments! 👍

Yes my biggest cause of temptation is loneliness and anxiety. and the masturbation just makes it worse, making a vicious cycle.

I do see what you mean about getting older though. masturbation gets old after awhile.

What does help for me is realizing how much it hurts my energy level, hurts my sexual desire making it harder to relate to other people, makes it harder to see God, etc.
 
The best way to avoid it is to force yourself think about something else, and shut off whatever is tempting you and giving you impure thoughts - webpage, television program, etc. Throw away any objects that might tempt you as well, such as certain magazines.

The longer you avoid it, the easier it is to not do it. You might still fall into sin every once in a while, but it won’t be a habit anymore.

Why we have such a high divorce-rate in this country perhaps: tired of only having yourself to masturbate? Get a woman to do it for you instead (you only have to marry her first).

I was being churlish. I found the idea that *marriage is a good alternative to masturbation *to be a mixture of misogynistic, offensive, and generally un-Christian.

That seems like a rather difficult claim to square with the history of divorce and with reason. High divorce rates are a relatively new phenomenon. And anyone who would divorce, which wrecks familes and causes great harm to children, is not likely to be overly concerned about the sin of masturbation.

On the other hand, marriage is a valid channel for sexual desire while masturbation is sinful outlet for the same.

Of course I was being simplistic in my response. Married people also commit adultery. The point, though, is that proper sex within marriage is a way to live without masturbation which was the question originally posed.

That is essentially what St Paul said.
 
Once my husband and I got married, it was very very easy for us to stop the nasty habit.

Quite honestly, I think it’s extremely unlikely that a young healthy person who is unmarried is able to go years without any form of masturbation at all. I know before my husband and I got married, my husband would have wet dreams 3 or 4 times a month when he managed to withhold masturbation for long periods of time. One way or another, the release has to come out.

well wet dreams are not sinful.

The longest I have gone is about a year, so I guess I can believe it’s possible. there is no question that not masturbating is good for you spiritually. It helps you focus on spiritual things, instead of thinking about sex.

Depends on one’s amount of self-control and determination. How devoted one is to God also is a huge factor.

Just to be clear, you are not saying that wet dreams are a sign of a lack of devotion to God, are you? Wet dreams are completely neutral morally and are a sign of nothing at all.
