Local Woman Defies Vatican, Works To Become Priest
ATLANTA – A Roman Catholic would recognize the sights, sounds and actions inside a Sarasota United Church of Christ, but the Roman Catholic Church did not approve of what happened on a Saturday afternoon this month.

Four women maintain they became deacons and eventually will become priests after a ceremony inside the central Florida church.

One of them, Diane Dougherty, is a second-grade teacher from Newnan. The devout Irish Catholic said she first had the calling 44 years ago.

Dougherty said she knows her ex-communication is near her feet stand in Roman Catholicism. She said she won’t follow others who left the church and become Episcopal priests.

“I’m not doing anything wrong, I’m doing everything right,” Dougherty said.

DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT? REALLY? Am I would think that fact that you are doing something that will get you ex-communicated should give you a clue that you are NOT doing everything right. She already left the Church with her actions when she decided to try to become a priest. :rolleyes:
 
So who exactly is instructing them on becoming priests? Who is ordaining them?
 
Sad!!! Women can’t be priests/decons and men can’t be nuns!!!

Who oversaw the diaconate ordination? Why do people so push these things? “I’ve learned not to look toward them.” -Speaking of talking to her past priests. WHAT?! “Pink smoke to the Vatican” Oh my… Then they started talking about OPEN communion that they had?! WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!! Please stop this atrocity…

I’m not sure of their educational process, but the article mentions that the ordination was through the Association of Roman Catholic Womenpriests. The letter which is said to contain Archbishop Gregory’s statement also seems to refer to this organization.

Setting aside the main issue, I do object to this misstatement:

Uh… I don’t think so. Granted, that was the misinterpretation that much of the mainstream media gave to the Vatican
s decision, last summer, to place female ordination and sex abuse in the same judicial category. However, the press got the wrong idea, and ran with it.

If two crimes are in the same judicial category, this affects the administrative procedures in how they are handled. It doesn’t mean that the two crimes are of equal weight. In the US, both murder and burglary are felonies, but that doesn’t mean they are of equal seriousness.

Reuters issued a story correction when the Vatican complained about the mis-reporting.

However, few people seemed to get the message. The journalists at WSBTV.com seem to be among the clueless, even though they’ve had nine months to get it right.

Bridget Mary Meehan is a bishop with the group but she doesn’t want to be called bishop. Meehan told Pearson, “We are trying to deconstruct the clerical hierarchal church.”

So, why get ordained at all. Can’t you all gather at the table together and break bread and all be “priests” together? 🤷 Is it just me or am I missing something here?

Don’t these people know that they are bringing condemnation upon themselves? Very sad.
 
Yesterday I went to the annual Chrism mass here in Dallas. There were protesters outside trying to garner support for women ordination, and also a priest who was excommunicated for supporting it. Their poster said “Sexism is a Sin, Ordain Women Now”.

I was completely blown away at their foolishness. First, for openly preaching dissidence for Church teaching, in the presence of the Bishop. Second, for not even considering how the sexism actually falls upon them. If they were to just open their eyes and realize that being a priest doesn’t make you “higher” than being “just a nun”, and that each person has a specific role to fill in the Church, they would realize that our roles given to us by God through his Church are really quite beautiful and fulfilling to our natural gifts.

I was really angry so I was going to engage one of them in conversation to see what they were made of, but it stormed during the mass and they were all gone when we came back out.

My though is that you could substitute the word “priest” with “turnip” and leave just as much of a chance of obtaining one’s goal.

where did they get the word sexism from? and who declared it a sin? them?
