A Muslim cleric from Lodi, one of five members of the Pakistani community in the San Joaquin County city arrested by federal authorities this month, told an immigration judge Friday that he made anti-American speeches to crowds in Pakistan in the first months of the U.S.-led invasion of neighboring Afghanistan. A bail hearing in San Francisco for Shabbir Ahmed, facing deportation for allegedly overstaying his visa, provided a forum for the government to counter his supporters’ claims that Ahmed is a peaceful clergyman victimized by anti- Islamic hysteria.

1 - How does one attain the title of imam, or sheik, or ayatollah, or mufti, or any of the Islamic religious clerics?
2 - How does one distinguish between a “good” imam and a “bad” imam?
3 - Is the imam in question being deported to Club Gitmo? Or was there a quid pro quo wherein he admitted to certain activities outside the U.S. and in exchange we don’t send him to Gitmo?

An Iman is a teacher. As far as I can tell it is a self appointed title.

A sheik is a leader of a tribe. If you have a group of followers you are a sheik. It is an Arab title, not an Islamic one.

An Ayatollah is a Shiite leader of a large group of followers. An Ayatollah is usually associated with a school. It is that school that calls him by that title.

How you might tell a good Islamic cleric from a bad one is by his works and teachings.

All of the Prophets exist to tell the people that something greater is coming and to prepare the way of the Lord. God used prophets to prepare the people for the Messiah. They would not be prophets if what they prophacy does not come to be. If this is true and Muslims believe that Mohammed is a prophet than what is he prophisiing? They say he comes to tell that God is one but that fact was already known thousands of years earlier by the Jews and the Fullness revealed by Christ through the Catholic Church.

What are some of his (Mohammed) prophisies that came to be?

What was his (Mohammed) purpose?

How can the angel that revealed the Koran to him contradict God and all the Holy Scripture that was already in existence?

The Muslims claim to be from Abraham but hate the Jewish people and people of the book (christians). With that said it seems that the heart of Islam is not peaceful or love, as many would claim it to be.

A side note; There is no authority in Islam other than those who have power. They have no Pope nor a magesterium. They are much like protestants in this reguard, they are their own authority and Pope.

The Muslims started to attack the Jews only after the state of Israel was founded in 1948. They actually had to import Christian anti-semetic propaganda because they didn’t have any.
