I once read a book about exorcism and the Priest ,who was the author ,mentioned that there are very holy LAY people with these gifts and are able to practice their gifts and assist exorcists under certain guidelines. One of those guidlines was that they cannot receive payment of any kind for their services. It was very interesting. I think the book may have been “The Rite”. Anybody heard of this?
Yes, I have heard of exorcists using “sensitive’s” people who are hyper-sensitive to spiritual presence and or activity. They can often sniff out a demonic entity. Im not sanctioning the use of these sensitive’s, but I have read and heard of them giving assistance to exorcists.

Parklake,

When I originally posted on this topic my emotions were extremely raw and to be honest I was completely freaked out over the medium thing. Mostly because that medium got information that nobody had or could have known anywhere. It shook me deeply and scared me.

Now that i have had adequate healing time I am no longer afraid of the possibilities that our loved departed ones can or may contact us - that fear of it being a dirty or bad thing is gone. But for me I just don’t feel my loved ones around nor have I personally felt like they are anywhere close by. If there is a possibility of them coming through for us why would they have to go through someone else? I just sometimes sit and think of my loved ones and feel a sense of comfort. I guess in the end we will know all the answers. I have watched a few episodes of LIM and she seems like a decent woman but if the spirits were really speaking to her why does she ask questions like who is the younger male? Wouldn’t the younger male say hey tell my Mom Karen that I am ok? It’s just too wishy washy.

One thing that helps me is thinking that my loved one is always somehow with me. Even though I don’t feel them it get’s me through rough times.
Long Island Medium is a proven fraud, go to you tube and place the name in a search, you will find the shows where she was proven with out a doubt a big phony. You can go to the internet and do a search on people before doing a show, ask questions and investigate well enough to get close and even be right about what most people have been through. Its a TV show that makes money, they will do what ever it takes to make this believable to keep the loot coming in. But she is with out a doubt a proven fraud. Go to you tube do the search and see for your self.

I’m also a skeptic but my father is a big fan of hers and is very active in his faith as a Catholic. We have had debates about it and I have made the points that many of you do about evil spirits and this not being endorsed by the church. He says she addresses this in her show. He even went to one of her live shows and she said that all the money from the tour is donated but I can’t remember where. Anyways, I’m doing more research on her but it is certainly intriguing.

I want to also add that the church’s history is full of people that have communicated with the dead and spirits so I’m not sure why some point to this as sinful.

My brother died five years ago and my father had been working at a hospital in NJ. One of his coworkers told him that she had a friend that can “communicate” with the dead sometimes. My father was very skeptical and did not want to do this. But he did it over the phone anyways. After that phone call, he wasn’t skeptical anymore. She told him things that she wouldn’t have been able to know. Personal things.

I do believe that God gives certain people these talents. Some may use them for evil, some for good, but I can’t dismiss all of them as frauds.

If a medium could tell us everything we needed to know about the afterlife we would have no need for faith. If we have all the answers, where does God fit in? Those who have passed on and are being purified or are in heaven do not spend their time thinking about the things of earth. Their number one concern is giving Glory to God. They would not be giving glory to God by answering people’s questions and telling them the future. That would be taking glory away from God. God does not want anyone doing his job for Him.

As a former psychic and medium, who has been radically reverted (Praise God) I now know and understand where all of the information I was passing on was coming from. I truly believed I was helping people, but then I came to understand all help is in and through the Trinity. Although I did not willingly co-operate with the devil, through my gross ingnorance, I actually did. Since I was graced with the information I needed, I have renounced all of that and destroyed all information and paraphernalia I once used to give “spiritual guidance”. Spiritual it was, but going in the completely wrong direction.

To this day, I do have uncannily accurate insight into the situations of people who come to me for advice or even just empathy. Since then I do not rely on anything but my faith and my desire to help others, but the help I need to give is in helping other people to trust God and give up all control to Him. Whether she asks for the “abilities” she has, she should not EVER charge money to anyone, or make money off of a television show that intrigues people to this occult practice. It is occult in the exact sense, that we and even she, does not know who is providing the insight and information. That right there, shows that if she truly believes it is a good “power” provided by good spirits, you would not be doing that to profit. This stuff really is nothing to take lightly. I am speaking from personal experience.

I read in an interview that she considers herself a practicing catholic and regularly receives communion. This horrifies me because she willingly practices and popularizes this occult practice. She is in a state of mortal sin. She has said that her parish priest knows of her practices and does not question it. All I can say is, He who eats or drinks unworthily, heaps judgement upon themselves. In this case it would be her soul and the soul of her priest if he knowingly gives her communion. There is just no way around this, this is not an innocent talent that she uses to help people. The source, although ultimately undetermined, is most likely evil. The fact that she makes a living off of it and causes other people to seek these kinds of services (through interest, intrigue etc.) is dangerous to so many souls.
seems to be a lot of juding and assumptions in this post.

What if the holy spirit came to Theresea and made it clear that this gift was a gift from God? How can you assume it is the work of the devil? Is anything evil coming from it? Do you know if she profits off of it?

Julia Mae you are extremely biased and incorrect in your perspective and assumptions on this phenomenon. The very word of God speaks against mediumship leaving no room for exceptions or good intentions. Here are a few verses :

Leviticus 19:31*
'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God

Leviticus 20:27*
“Men and women among you who act as mediums or psychics must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of a capital offense.”

Deuteronomy 18:10-13*
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God.*

1 Chronicles 10:13-14*
Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

2 Chronicles 33:6*
He [King Manasseh] sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15*
But I am not surprised! Even Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light. So it is no wonder his servants can also do it by pretending to be godly ministers. In the end they will get every bit of punishment their wicked deeds deserve.
We as Catholics often accuse Protestants of taking verses out of context…

Hi everyone I wanted to respond to this thread. I am new here. I will try and make it light as there is some heavy subject material I will write about.

3 months ago my only sister took her life. She left behind notes and wow were they angry. Very detailed notes. I was the person who got her box of belongings from the hotel she was staying at and the first family to have access to these notes. I was devastated. So someone on a forum suggested a medium through facebook. Being so distraught with many unanswered questions I sought out this medium. I was not really taking into consideration what I was doing was terribly and morally wrong. So with trepidation I proceeded further in contacting her, thinking yea right! She can’t pick up on anything.

About three days later she contacted me through facebook with a word document attachment of her reading. Now folks there were things in these written notes nobody could have known about. In particular an item in which my sister spoke of with great emotion and concern. This medium lady was able to describe this item which is not a common thing and also my sisters anger towards her ex husband and things she said and felt in her suicide notes. I will tell you this, I was shaken. I felt as though I crossed a line in which I should not have done. And I felt terribly corrupted after that event. Looking back I am disgusted that I even took that path but desperation and grief can make you do the dumbest things. I beg God for his forgiveness I am ashamed that I did this. I know it was not my sister but the Devil playing his tricks. The dead do not communicate with us they are too busy in the afterlife. So if anyone reads this maybe it will give some perspective on the topic and these are things that Chistians are not supposed to dabble in. I only pray I will be forgiven for this and I do not feel it a Mortal sin however it is really a bad bad thing.

As far as the Long Island Medium I honestly thing bad energies are contacting her. I just do not believe that the dead try and make contact. My mother passed 18 years ago and I loved her with all my heart. I’ve never felt her. In the end all things will be revealed and I refuse to watch that show or anything like it.
I think it is sad that people to not believe that those that have passed on do not have interactions with those that they left behind.

can you give this source please?

And are you saying that we cannot pray to those in Heaven?
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

Well, that’s what the catechism states - we shouldn’t consult with mediums- vastly different than asking others to intercede in prayer.

Yes, we watched some of the you tube video’s also, plus read many article’s from eye witness account’s of her fraudulent practice’s. We had watched a few of her show’s and never viewed her again. It seems like people who choose to do this (plus the lady on The Dead Files) are on major ego trip’s that leads them down a dead-end road that does not lead to God.

I do not recall the particular source’s of the in depth article’s regarding many of her technique’s used. We read many of the witness account’s of how she has associate’s gather information from her client’s to use before a “reading”, about four month’s ago. Sorry, but we do not remember where we found all of this.

Attempting to communicate with the dead is strictly forbidden, dabbling in the occult is a very serious sin. In extraordinary exceptions, God will allow an apparition to appear to deliver a message but we must never seek these things out. I think that’s the difference with the saints and holy people who spoke with souls that passed on – they never deliberately sought that communication out. It was ushered to them in a vision by God’s permission alone.

The problem with communicating with the dead on our own terms is that we don’t know who we are really communicating with. They could be dark forces masquerading as good.

It’s better to pray for souls rather than try to “talk” to them.

Better not to mess with things like that. I know from a lot of reading I did on all that stuff as a kid and teenage best to let be and not awaken or attract anything that might be hard to get rid of. Just my opinion of course. 🤷:tsktsk::whistle:

So it is forbidden that I “talk” with deceased relatives?
Forbidden to seek to talk ‘with them’ via a medium etc. vice talk to them, i.e. in prayer without expectation of a response is they way I understand it.

I agree with this so much. If seances and Ouija boards and Tarot cards are forbidden- of course Mediums are. Contact with the dead is not something God wants us to do. Otherwise, wouldn’t we have Psychics next to the Confessionals telling us what sins we are going to commit in our futures?
It is putting your faith not in God’s plan for you, but asking for instant gratification by seeking a person to see into your future or contact someone from your past. If we struggle with grief, it is better to pray for that person’s soul. It is called faith for a reason- we are to have faith in God and his plans. Dabbling in this is, from what I understand, a mortal sin against the first commandment. It also puts your soul in danger of other serious exposure to demons- many exorcisms start with occult practices.

I agree except for the bolded part. This obviously isn’t true
