One view point I’ve never seen discussed is the point of putting a foreign chemical into your system. It amazes me that people are so willing to take the chance of messing with their bodies this way…setting aside the moral issue of it? Just curious and looking for other opinions.

Great website… full of info! 👍

I own the only pharmacy in my area that won’t fill OC’s (to my knowledge).
I have never gotten an iota of support from the diocese for not doing so, which is sad, IMO.

NB: I am not doing it because I want support, but you’d think that the diocese would publish a “pro-life” pharmacy list…

Sad indeed. But don’t falter. You’re doing the right thing 👍

What if the drug can be made from the woman’s own hormones?

The problem still exists that there will be “excessive” amounts of hormones in the woman’s body… chemically, something is still out of whack… which can lead to the same consequences.

I suppose you could buy advertising on your area church bulletins stating that yours is a pro-life pharmacy.

I have known and/or known of people, who were not otherwise opposed to contraception, who did not want to use the “the pill” for this very reason.

Good for you.

Before I became more religious I was still opposed to using it. I don’t react well to any kind of drugs and was suspicious of long term effects to the body. Still am on most drugs and medications that aren’t over the counter. I guess I’m just too much of a naturalist.

It strikes me as odd when people buy hormone-free milk, hormone-free chicken and assorted other hormone-free and “natural” foods, then take hormonal contraception without blinking an eye. Hello???

As you wrote in the op about setting morality aside on this topic, why are some people excessively concerned about having everything “natural”, except the natural link between sexual activity and reproduction? Some of the very people who argue for “natural” are the very ones who want to push contraception and population control on humans!

Ok, so are you opposed to chemotherapy, where you deliberately fill someone’s body with dangerous poison instead of natural hormones?

No kidding!! Before becoming Catholic, I was terrified of the idea of putting hormones into my body for contraceptive purposes, and I was ecstatic to learn of the Church’s support of the proper use of NFP, should the need arise. After being married for about 6 years, my husband and I started researching all of our food sources, and are trying to avoid all of the hormones/antibiotics added to the animals. So, we went ‘backward’ so to speak – Starting with the avoidance of contraceptives, and working our way to the avoidance of hormones in our food. 😛

Interesting point to say the least…

I was put on BC at 18 because my cycle was so out of control. It at least helped with excessive 3 week long periods. That really interfered with going to school and work. (at some point excessive bleeding…not always though. The cramps for the entire time was a bit much. Something about being doubled over for nearly months at a time.

Docs are crazy. They just tell you oh… “this is normal.” REALLY?

But you make an awesome point about milk and such. Babies are often fed Soy formula when they can’t nurse for whatever reason, and they don’t cope with milk. Soy is feminizing, and messes with your endocrine system BIG TIME. I suspect, and it’s just my opinion, that soy is what has lead to most of the messed up hormonal situations out there. We then get into a situation of trying to constantly correct. Hormones are thrown at you when you are young BC. When you are menopausal, Projesterone, and Estrogen. The cycle never ends.

To the pharmacist. Do you sell drugs that are used in fertility treatments? And I assume no condoms…

I was on the pill for the same reason. I would be crying in bed unable to move because of the pain. Needless to say, I missed a lot of school. My mom would have to carry me because I couldn’t walk without pain, and I was anemic due to blood loss. We had tried natural cures, Catholic doctors, nothing worked.
I was put on painkillers for a while, but they just made me sick. I was on the pill for six months, then I was taken off. And my cramps haven’t been horrible since. They are within the realm of normal pain (ie I can go to work).

For therapeutic purposes, it was a miracle. Better than ending up addicted to painkillers. It is not something I wanted to take, but it worked for me.
