If we see smoke in the next hour, it will be white. If the first ballot fails, they wait until after the second ballot to burn them all. So smoke around 2 pm could be white or black, but smoke around 12:30 pm will mean the 1st ballot of the afternoon (4th overall) was successful. Cardinal Ratzinger was elected on the 4th ballot in 2005.

Ok, thanks.

Hey! I’m watching CNN, where even during the commercials they have the Vatican Smokecam running. A dove just settled on the top of chimney!

:bigyikes: :extrahappy:

(Unless it’s a seagull. Or a pigeon. It’s kinda hard to tell with such a small picture.)

🤷

I’m watching them too as I don’t get EWTN and I like to watch TV while I surf the Net.

Maybe a dove is a good sign 🙂

Oh wait, CNN just confirmed it is a seagull. Must be a slow news day…🙂

They just did a closeup – it has webbed feet. It’s a seagull. :crying:

Well, it might not be biblical, but there is a story about an Israeli farming community during the late 1890s that was saved from a wave of locusts that were eating their crops, when thousands of seagulls appeared and ate the locusts. There was a double benefit to this rescue, in that the bird poop fertilized the remaining crops. Maybe this is a sign that the locusts in the Church are about to be devoured. And the faithful remnant fertilized. So to speak.

Just saw that the bird now has a Twitter hash: #SistineSeagull. Hanging at the Conclave. Loving life. And Cheetos.

P.S. I know the Mormons have a similar story. But we’re not Mormon.

Hope #sistineseagull is a good omen. The bird has over 2000 followers on twitter, last I checked.

We have a new pope! I just saw the white smoke and heard the bells on CNN! The name hasn’t been announced yet.

My daughter just read me a comment by one of the bloggers she follows (a Catholic one, apparently – wonder of wonders.) In regards to having elected a pope after only 5 ballots:

I guess the cardinal didn’t see his shadow.

It’s not Cardinal Tauran as he is making the announcement.

I can’t hear the Latin.

Cheering. Who is it?

It’s Cardinal Bergoglio from Argentina. Who had him?

This is according to CNN.

Praying for Pope Francis l. I pray that Cardinal DiNardo will be back here in Houston for Easter Mass at co cathedral. Also praying for everyone here!
