Looking for spiritual mentor

I’d be grateful if I could find a priest to be a spiritual mentor. I left the church years ago but want to return. However, I live in an area where there is no Catholic parish or priest.

start by perusing ewtn website.

i also highly recommend listening in to Catholic Answers Live on ewtn radio or tunein radio.

the CAL radio show can help answer a lot of your questions as you return to the faith. you can also follow catholic answers on facebook and you will be notified when they have their live sessions.

I found my spiritual mentor via CAL

If a priest is not available, and I can understand that since some need to travel between parishes having the responsibility of several. The Deacons I have known are very spiritual people. Check the Orders as well, the seminaries and houses of Franciscan Minor will gladly help you out. Never have I seen a more humble and caring group. Any Order other than the seculars would be an ideal selection. Females may prefer to enquire at the convents for willing assistance. All these are held to the highest discretion. 🙂
 
Right. A retreat center would have Spiritual Directors.
Also, call the Diocese where you reside They should have a list of suitable persons.

I’m not sure how there can be NO church at all.

I live in a country where Christianity is illegal. If you could recommend a priest I could talk or Skype to, I’d be grateful. I’m equally amenable to Roman Catholic or Byzantine Catholic. I plan on joining a parish when I return to the US.

I’ve tried emailing a couple of Catholic organizations, but no response. I even had one priest respond by saying he wouldn’t talk to me. That was hurtful.
 
That’s a good thought pianistclare, but I’m getting tired of reaching out asking for help and being ignored. I’ve also been dealing with death recently too.

I thought joining this forum would help. It finally occurred to me today. Why would I want to be part of a church that has ignored me to this extent when I’m trying to return?

Who is ignoring you, exactly, and where have you been seeking help.
What kind of help do you specifically need, a person to talk to, spiritual advice, or Spiritual Direction?
 
I’m not sure that the average priest is prepared to be a spiritual mentor to someone. I wouldn’t make too much of that. I’m writing in the US in a diocese where there are fewer and fewer priests and parishes.

You might try making a contact with Renewal Ministries in Ann Arbor, MI, with Sr. Ann Shields, Peter Herbeck, or Ralph martin. They or their staff may be able to point you to some support for general matters.

I’ve never had a spiritual mentor, so I don’t know what they do or what you’re asking about.

You could follow the advice of the others who have responded to your post or send me a private message. There is a slight chance that I could help you. I will send you a private message (now) with the email of my parish pastor.

Instead of being DIScouraged, take courage! The fact that you have been inspired to return is just one more blessing about to happen. Also, remember that the forces at work that kept you away from the Church are now REALLY hard at work to put roadblocks of fear, resentment, and rejection into your heart. St. Paul says, “Have NO anxiety whatever, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpsseses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:6-9) I go to this whenever I feel doubtful, and know that He cares for me; that if I do the next right thing, and bring everything to Him in prayer, all will be good.
Take heart, there is help, just keep asking!
