Well, Some kids do go bad despite their parents best efforts, many of these cases however, are due to poor parenting.
Perhaps - I do not know how one could quantify such data.

What I do know is that Paul2274 said it is ALL the parents fault and he said it iwth gusto. I felt that such a statement needed to be addressed.

Not to belittle what you are saying friend, but being a good parent and example is not always enough. We must remember that we are dealing with humans (children) who have free will.

I was raised in a devout Catholic family and still managed to go down the wrong road as a teen. Pregnant girlfriend, married too young etc.

This was NOT - I repeat - NOT the fault of my parents.
It was **MY - repeat - MY Fault **

I give all credit to my family and especially my mother and Godfather for eventually praying me back into the Church.
Many Parents today do need to take a more active and mature role but even in so doing it is no guarentee.

In the present toxic,all-pervasive popular culture it is very difficult for parents to raise Christian children without a support system in their church or community.Every form of media seems to be selling sex to young people. In some ways, the conservative Mennonite communities have a better safety net for their children than we Catholics do.

Then, as good fishermen, it is time to mend the nets. Rebuild the safety net for our Children.
As I mentioned earlier my post was in relation to an earlier post laying ALL of the blame on parents. I felt that I needed to defend my own parents who did everything possible for me and my siblings. Fine examples - Catholic Schools - prayer at home etc. Yet I still went down the wrong road for many years.

We need to Encourage and help Parents send their children to Catholic Schools. Demand that our Catholic Schools teach solid and orthodox catholic theology.
Turn OFF the TV (except for EWTN) and open books, family games, etc.

I do hear you.I’ve seen the same thing happen with good, Catholic parents & their kids choosing the wrong path in spite of all the worthy things parents might do. It happens.Kids have free will to make the wrong decisions.Praise God when they figure it out.👍

We can only do what we can do. While most of my schoolmates have gone down the road of popular culture (even those from strong catholic families), my wife and I are doing our best to associate ourselves with strong catholic families (and so our kids see their kids as their peers).

I will say this, we were lucky to find a community of strong catholic families. It happened because of a series of unrelated events…and a prayer for direction.
