Not any when endangers a child. The fact that this is even defended by anyone speaks volumes about the long road ahead in sex abuse reforms in the Catholic Church.
Does a teenager have a right to speak to someone who is bound to keep silent about what was spoken to him?

Actually the fact that you don’t see how this priest didn’t commit the crime and you are in agreement of a court to force a to break a sacramental seal that is approx 2000 years old speaks volumes about your prejudice.

Who is to say that some will not use confession to falsely accuse others?

The fact that you can’t even see how this sacrament is incredibly important to Catholics as it deals with eternal salvation also speaks volumes about your religious intolerance.

They don’t know how else to attack the Church.

So tired of these attacks and persecutions.

God give me strength in this world gone astray…
Really?

First off have you ever read your Catechism?

Offenses against chastity
2356 Rape is the forcible violation of the sexual intimacy of another person. It does injury to justice and charity. Rape deeply wounds the respect, freedom, and physical and moral integrity to which every person has a right. **It causes grave damage that can mark the victim for life. It is always an intrinsically evil act. Graver still is the rape of children committed by parents (incest) or those responsible for the education of the children entrusted to them. **

So when I was 15 I was raped by Fr Leon Gaulin at St Thomas More in Durham NH and because I am DEMANDING that all pedophile priests and all leaders whom covered this up be fired, defrocked, arrested, tried and put into prison for life…am attacking you and persecuting you?

But…I guess when Cardinal Timothy Dolan pays Bill Donohue of the Catholic League…and there IS CONCRETE PROOF of this…and Donohue says such things as we are all liars, gold diggers out looking for a pay day, or that because we did not punch our rapist priests in the face, that means not only did we want to be raped, we enjoyed being raped and we are homosexuals because of it…and all the connotations that are associated with the condemnation of homosexuals in this church?

Or they use the statue of limitations to deny us justice and get the cases dismissed?

Or hide behind confession to escape for their crimes?

That is not attacking us and persecuting us?

Wow…are YOU TWISTED

I guess we the victims of these crimes should just forgive you all and not seek your prosecutions for the crimes committed against us…because that is so Anti-Catholic of us right?

NONE OF YOU DESERVE FORGIVENESS…TO BE FORGIVEN…YOU ALL MUST TRULY REPENT AND NONE OF YOU HAVE DONE SO.

Religious intolerance? No, but I do not find allowing a child to be raped to save the soul of the rapist to be a convincing argument either for concealing sexual abuse or a proper exercise of the Seal of Confession.

I hate to tell you this but it is a crime to make this priest tell what is going on in Confession. They are violating his religious freedom very clearly. The judge who is making him testify ought to be ashamed of himself.

That said, I don’t believe that allowing the Seal of Confession to be absolute hurts the Church in matters of sexual abuse in the least. If the government is so incompetent with all of the spying going on and such that they can’t figure out that someone is a child molester without violating a priest’s religious freedom so severely that he’d be excommunicated then that’s pretty darn incompetent and pretty darn sad.
So let’s see…in your opinion…this priests right trumps the rights of us whom were raped by these priests right to seek prosecution of them for the crimes committed against us?

Hey Holly…raping children is NOT only a sin…it is a felony crime…and so is the cover up of these crimes…but hey…

We are supposed to just forgive you all right? We are supposed to turn the other cheek right?

The last time I turned the other cheek around a Roman Catholic priest…he raped me.

In March of 1975 Leon Gaulin, priest at St Thomas More in Durham NH did the following to me…and I want you to read it…

First he sucked off my you know what…so he could suck out the evil from me.
Then he forced me to suck off his you know what…so I could receive his sacred sacrament from him.
Then he raped me anally, forcing me to say the Our Father and Hail Mary…all the while telling me that if I told ANYONE about his special healing I would burn in hell for all eternity.

So lady…how should I deal with this?

Forgive him and not seek his prosecution?

Because if I did seek his prosecution and demand justice…why well that is so Anti-Catholic of me?

Or do you even consider what he did to me a crime and just a sin?

I just read how you called for Rome to be nuked in the other blog.

I am sorry but you need to be reported.

Excuse me?

Do you even know what this case is about?

Confession is forgiveness of sins. Do you think we would compromise this sacrament for a second? For us there isn’t nothing more important than the forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation.

Intolerance, prejudice, anti-Catholicism is what this is about.

How do you deal with it? It is not easy. But the answer is not to persecute innocent people as a scapegoat. The abused does not have free reign to falsely accuse others. Everyone needs to acknowledge their own faults and not try to blame others for their own failings. Otherwise what is to keep the abuser from justifying his/her own crimes because he was abused and so no and so on.

Let’s see,

I’m like the 10th person here and in another blog you insult.

You accuse Cardinal Dolan and Bill Donahue

You call for Rome to be nuked

You insulted everyone here and judged and said that we were not going to be saved and that we needed to repent.

I think you need to repent for accusing innocent people here. Rest assured that I repent all the time. I go to confession with my incredible priest. A priest I love and deserves all the respect in the world. Rest assured that I will not confess the false accusations you claim I have.

Good day and I hope you repent and follow Christ.

Well, color me improperly catechized! I apologize for my HUGE mistake. I guess “righting the wrong” only applies to little kids that shoplift candy… 🤷
Righting the wrong always applies. But absolution is not contingent on restitution. A priest could not tell a shoplifter that he would withhold absolution until after the kid had returned the candy either.

Not any when endangers a child. The fact that this is even defended by anyone speaks volumes about the long road ahead in sex abuse reforms in the Catholic Church.
You do realize that there are other forms of privileged secrecy recognized in our law, right? For instance, a rapist who let something slip to his defense attorney that confirms to the defense attorney that he is guilty…that information is still bound inviolably in client-attorney privilege. No court could demand that the attorney reveal that information under current law–and not without endangering the whole framework of our justice system.

I’m not sure about the details, but I believe an attorney who did reveal such information about a client he was bound to represent would be disbarred and subject to criminal prosecution by the client.

There is no religious freedom to conceal the rape of children.
He didn’t conceal the crime of rape, he heard a confession. This is sealed in the sacrament of confession. The state can mandate that he tell what happened, the priest will not and he will take the punishment for it. This would and is an infringement of his and the Church’s freedom to practice religion.

Not any when endangers a child. The fact that this is even defended by anyone speaks volumes about the long road ahead in sex abuse reforms in the Catholic Church.
You do not have authority or interest in speaking of what the Church is doing or not doing. You are ignorant of these Church matters and speak in the interest of the secular not eternal. This country was formed out of a need and a desire to practice religion freely. This ruling impedes that promise.

Edited for charity…😃

Louisiana Supreme Court Raises Seal of Confession Worries (5978)
The state high-court ruling over a sex-abuse victim’s confessions has alarmed the local Church, but the case may not yet be a religious-liberty issue.

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled that a trial court may admit a girl’s testimony about sacramental confessions in a lawsuit accusing a priest and the Church of failing to report her sexual abuse at the hands of a now-dead parishioner.

But the high court’s ruling has set the Diocese of Baton Rouge on edge with its mandate that the trial court discover whether the girl made a sacramental confession or that the priest’s knowledge of the abuse came about in some other way.

The high court reversed the decision of an appellate court, which last year threw out a lawsuit against Father Jeff Bayhi and the Diocese of Baton Rouge. The suit, filed in 2009, claims the priest failed in his duty as a mandatory reporter when a 14-year-old girl allegedly told him during three separate confessions in 2008 that she was being sexually molested by a 64-year-old parishioner.

I liked the way he researched and called experts to get their view. I found this interesting: “Brian Abels, who is representing the girl and her parents, told a local news station he had no intentions of forcing Father Bayhi to testify. He said he only wanted the girl to be able to relate to the court her description of the confessions, where Father Bayhi’s alleged advice was to “sweep it under the floor and get rid of it.”

“Her testimony has been it [the confession] was more of a plea for help, counseling, and that plea, according to her, went unheeded,” Abels said."

Their is no way the priest can defend himself. It could be true, it could be how it was taken, or it could even be a lie to get money from the Church. There doesn’t seem to be any winner here. Prayers for the girl and her family. Prayers for the priest.

This has already been discussed at length.

And you were part of the discussion.
The reason I didn’t put it is it is a different take on the issue. Also, the one I heavily commented on is closed.
But, if they want to combine it with another one, they can. There are two here, under news, btw.

The title of the thread is supposed to be the same as the title of the article.

I was under the impression you could give the condensed. I don’t know how to change it.
