'Love transforms everything,' Pope tells sick, disabled

Vatican City, May 17, 2014 / 09:43 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis met with nearly 5,000 members of apostolates dedicated to the sick and suffering on Saturday, encouraging them to live lives transformed by love and to support others who suffer.

I am glad that this news article was posted and that Pope Francis said the things he said. It means a lot to me since I am disabled myself although my disabilities are not as severe as many others who sadly suffer a lot more than I do.

That said, I take great consolation in the fact that I can offer up my suffering to God in union with Jesus Christ’s suffering so He can use it for a greater good. This is known as Redemptive Suffering. I also take great consolation in the fact that Jesus Christ fully understands my suffering and that of everyone else since He suffered Himself. Indeed, He suffered far more than I will ever suffer. In addition, I also take great consolation in the fact that at Mass there is usually listed prayer intentions for the sick and suffering.

I can testify to the fact that while being disabled and having much suffering is very difficult. However, I can also testify to the fact that God consoles me when I am suffering as I am sure He does for others too.

There are many saints who remind us that doing so is powerful. St. Padre Pio and St. Gemma Galgani along with many others are such wonderful reminders to us of that truth.
