I made the statement that Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than Protestants do. For this, I was called presumtuous.

I’d like to give Protestants a format to defend themselves against my statement.

Now, I can’t speak for Muslims in detail, but I know that they love and revere Mary. They even have an entire book of the Koran devoted to her. I’ll hope that a Muslim can enlighten us all (and if neccessary, correct me if I’m wrong on what I believe they feel for her) on how their faith sees Mary, the mother of Jesus.

As for Catholics, I can’t speak for every last Catholic, but generally speaking, we love her. We have no issues with veneration of Mary. We see her as our mother (as Jesus is our brother through our common Father Who is God, The Father).

We ask her to pray for us.

We defend her when others belittle her or impune her reputation.

We are jealous for her image to the world and guard it against misrepresentations.

We praise her.

We mention her regularly.

We have always felt this way, since the beginning of Christianity.

Former Catholics who’d go on to be the church fathers of the Protestant Reformation also venerated Mary (Luther, Calvin, Zwigli, etc…).

The non-veneration of Mary was created post Reformation by anti-Catholic Protestants and is a relatively new practice having only been employed during the last 400 years.

But for 2,000 years, Christianity has loved and revered the woman who gave up her only born Son so that man would be saved.

We are grateful to her.

Jesus, Who is The Life, came through her womb, therefore, our eternal Salvation Who is Christ came through her womb…her womb gave us life…just like a mother does to any child born naturally.

Scripture calls anybody who follows Christ the children of the woman who gave birth to Jesus Christ (Revelations 12:17).

So, we love her as Jesus Himself loved her…as our own mother.

Catholics, if you can add onto what I said or just want to offer your own words and/or corrections, by all means please do.

Non-Catholic Christians, the question is to you…am I wrong to assert that Catholics and Muslims love and revere and hold Mary in higher esteem than you do?

If so, I welcome your explanation & correction because I would love to be wrong about this one. I really would. I would really like to know that you consider Mary (as The Scriptures tell us) the mother of all Christians and that you love her even more than Muslims do.

Of course, we can all define for ourselves what love is and just so that there’s no confusion, I’ve listed what I believe Catholics feel for Mary as a common faith (and can be corrected by Catholics if need be).

Do Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than non-Catholic Christians?

As a Muslim I respect her for not aborting Jesus when she could have in fear of being punished as an adulteress.

In my case, I just haven’t given much thought to Mary. From what I’ve seen, Protestants don’t put much emphasis on Mary. In that way, I would say Catholics definitely esteem her more highly. I don’t know about Muslims.

I have no problem with asking the Blessed Mother to pray for me. However, I read A Philadelphia Catholic in King James’s Court, and I don’t think it once mentioned the mother praying to GOD to keep her son safe. She prayed the Rosary and prayed to the Blessed Mother, though. To me, that kind of devotion is excessive.

That’s one of my favorite points to Pro-Abortion Christians…“what if” Mary had an abortion?

👍
There was a great little exercise I heard once, listing scenarios and would you say this baby should be aborted? Beethoven was one, Jesus another.

Not to change the subject, but this is a very bad argument against abortion. Whether the baby was Hitler or Beethoven, he has an EQUAL right to life and dignity.

You can’t list scenarios and say, Should this baby have been aborted. It is a non-question. NO baby should be aborted.

That being said :o

Mary is our mommy and we cling to her and love her! I’ve heard more Protestants are picking up the Rosary and loving Mary as “The First Disciple.”

The Rosary is a meditative prayer (there are several types of prayer). It is to bring one to meditate on Christ.

How is meditating on Christ ever excessive?

While some potential Hitlers may have been aborted, imagine how many potential doctors who could cure aids or cancer may have been aborted?

Or how many good leaders have been aborted?

How many prophets?

🤷

As I said in my post before reading yours, ditto to the Hitler reference.

Now, on Protestants accepting and incorporating Mary more, you’ll notice that the longer a Protestant denomination has been in existance, the more “Mary friendly” they are.

Anti-Catholic Protestants are notoriously Anti-Mary as well which isn’t surprising.

But…I do love that Protestants are learning to abandon the faith of their stepfathers and adopting the faith of their church fathers (Luther, Calvin, etc…).

If they keep going back into their history, they just might make it past that magical 16th Century barrier that keeps them from accepting “all” of Christianity (instead of just post 16th century Christianity).

It was not the fact that the Rosary was said, but rather that the way the book phrased it was that she was praying the Rosary, in petition to the Blessed Mother, and that she never prayed to God directly. This book was one defending Catholic teachings. I’ve prayed the Rosary before.

In Melbourne Australia, an Islamic community named their place of worship the Virgin Mary Mosque.

Apologies if that doesn’t fit into this thread, but I thought that was interesting.

Mary, the Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of Fatima; Pray for us!

There is also a mosque in Perth called St. Mary Mosque or something similar. I thought the choice of the title saint was rather interesting!

In any case, the beliefs of the Catholic Church about the Body of Christ are absolutely essential in understanding why we venerate Mary or any other saint for that matter. I suggest Protestants talk to an apologist about this.

Hi

We Muslims use the word Auliya-Allah for , I think, what the Catholics denote with the word “Saint”. Auliya-Allah is plural meaning saints, the singular is Wali-uAllah, the literal traslation would be Friend of Allah or Friends of Allah.

I see no harm in naming a mosque as St.Mary Mosque. It is a good gesture of friendship.

The word Auliya might have referred to the following verse of Quran.

[41:31] As for those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah;’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend on them, reassuring them: 'Fear not, nor grieve; and rejoice in the glad tidings of the Garden which you were promised;
[41:32] **'We are your friends **in this life and in the Hereafter. Therein you will have all that your souls will desire, and therein you will have all that you will ask for -
[41:33] ‘An entertainment from the Most Forgiving, Merciful God.’
[41:34] And who is better in speech than he who invites men to Allah and does righteous deeds and says, ‘I am, surely, of those who submit?’

An angel descended on Mary and gave her the Gospel of Jesus, without being touched by a human. GodAllahYHWH had sent the Gospel; she was afraid of the Jews, but these words of friendship from Allah consoled her very much. We see GodAllahYHWH supported her the whole life against all odds; what a marvellous friend she had?

None equal to Him.

Thanks

Thanks

Imagine if Anti-Marian Veneration Protestants adopted that attitude towards the mother of Jesus Christ?

🙂

Hi

Sorry, I can’t understand the significance of the above quote from you post.

Kindly explain for me.

Thanks
I was once read something which gave scenarios of pregnant mothers in various unfortunate situations, then asked if the mother should get an abortion. The scenarios were ones which the mothers of Beethoven and Jesus, among other famous people, experienced.

By the way, I’m not saying that most Protestants “don’t” love Mary. Most Protestants say that most Protestants “don’t” love Mary.

I know that there is a growing minority of Protestants that love her dearly. I acknowledge them. And you know something folks? They are very happy Christians.

👍

Most protestants don’t give any thought to Mary, she’s not on their radar screen, I say that as a formerly devout altarboy from the 1950’s who converted to pentecostalism about 40 yrs. ago and reverted back to my catholic faith last March. When I first returned, I had a strong mental block to praying to Mary, so I did something bold in my mind by wearing the miraculous metal and asking the Lord if it was OK. So I prayed “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.” Since then I have no problem asking for the prayers of the Mother of God, Mary most holy, I am completely convinced of the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption, Perpetual Virginity, and Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven.:extrahappy:
