Lukewarm Catholics can be those who do not accept all that the Church has revealed with regards to faith and morals, even if they go to Mass every Sunday and day of obligation, and to the Sacrament of Reconciliation occasionally. It appears to me that they are poorly catechized, and are not aware that Our Lord Jesus Christ gave the Church authority.Those that go through life thinking they are secure and in no need of change.
It is those that are the most passionate that are more open to God’s mercy. The pious ones are easy to understand. But its the one that are angry at God or His Church (or life in general) that are often open for conversion.
St. Paul’s conversion story is one quick example that comes to mind.
Have you ever seen the person who goes to Mass two or three times a year and thinks that this is “good enough”? That’s lukewarm.
But even the person who is angry at the Church and leaves it, will often find that they are “not filled” with any of the alternatives. This can often lead them back to the Church with more vigor.
