Luminous mysteries of the rosary and traditonalist

I do not use them, though I have no particular problem with them. The Rosary being a private devotion, I always viewed the addition of the Luminous Mysteries as just a publication of how HH John Paul II prayed the Rosary. That’s all well and good, but I feel a greater connection to the form established in antiquity.
 
Yes…thats what I believe as well.

Its fine if you say Hail Mary’s while meditating on the New Mysteries…just dont call it the Rosary.
Sorry Missa, it doesn’t work that way; the Rosary is not whatever you want it to be. The Rosary is not something you own. Its a treasury of the Church and the Church has added these new mysteries to the Rosary now so why don’t you be obedient to the Church and accept them happily?

I do. I think it breeds the spirit of dissonance among the faithful and it also appears to me that is can introduce a certain pride for the individual who refuses to pray the new Mysteries.
 
I’m not gonna stick around and debate this issue - it’s the least of my concerns :-p - but I will just mention that some of the most profound insights I’ve gotten have been during the Luminous Mysteris of the Rosary. They seem to come from nowhere at times. So whatever the pros or cons of them, they have born very good fruit.
 
Not really connected, but I occasionally use this form of the Rosary when meditating on the life of Christ after Mass.
That’s a neat form of the Rosary! I’ll have to bookmark that!

I said “other” since I use the Luminous Mysteries sometimes (and sometimes the Joyful Mysteries on a Thursday). I like traditional things, in non-religious areas also, however sometimes I feel the need to “learn” from the newer mysteries.
 
I like the traditional, however I have no problem with one praying the Luminous Mysteries, or any mysteries I might add.
 
I don’t call myself a traditionalist, but I do pray the Rosary in Latin. I would have considered myself a traditionalist but I have no problem with the NO mass when it is done properly and reverently. But I do miss kneeling at the rail as I experienced it at a Catholic Convert Anglican parish.

It put tears in my eyes and reminded me of my childhood.
 
I have been praying and meditating on the new mysteries on Thursday’s. It is absolutely amazing how they add so much to my prayer life. How could it be a mistake to meditate on the Institution of the Holy Eucharist? I have found meditating on The Baptism of Christ to be profoundly transforming. It reminds me to thank God for the waters of my own baptism and to spiritually renew me in those most Holy Waters of Baptism. It reminds me to pray for my unbaptized nieces. I could go on and on about how wonderful the Luminious Mysteries are. God Bless You All!

For me, I usually just meditate on the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. But when I get the urge to not meditate on the Luminous Mysteries, than I meditate on them, offering it up as a sacrifice to God.

Not to toot my own horn.
 
To me, the luminous mysteries really make the praying of the rosary quite complete.

:yup: You had the events surrounding the birth, death and ressurection of Jesus, but not anything in between. Now, you’re covering everything from the Wedding at Cana to the Institution of the Eucharist. I’m not a traditionalist Catholic (then again, I don’t think I’m quite old enough to be one if traditionalist means pre-Vatican II. 🤷 ), but I voted yes.
 
I’m not sure why this thread was brought back, after it was inactive for more than a year.

I didn’t really like that Pope John Paul II added mysteries to the rosary, but the rosary is a private devotion- you can say it however you want, or not say it at all if you don’t want to. I really don’t think Mary or Jesus are offended by the luminous mysteries. Whether you meditate on them while praying the rosary or not, they are important events in the life of Jesus- and probably of Mary too- I see nothing wrong with meditating on them.
