I own one of those. I’m still trying to get the insertion down pat. It’s a bit difficult for me, although not due to anything dryness related as it is made of a smooth material and you fold it up a bit before insertion. On the rare occasion that I have gotten it in correctly, it really is so comfortable that I can’t feel it.

I really need to get the hang of it. I’ve started going to the gym and it would be ideal for workouts.
Like I said, people have said that OTC lubrication seems to help 🤷 I also read somewhere about various folding procedures that help. Perhaps that would aid you.
And I would have to agree, a cup would be so much better for workouts, swimming, etc.

On a side note- I worked an 8 hour shift at work (I work in a kitchen) and we got slammed(!) and I wasn’t able to go to the bathroom for several hours (like 4.5) and I didn’t have any absorption issues with my pads, like I would with disposables. And no stinky-ness, either.

Not to worry. If you were conscious, you could explain it yourself; if not, hopefully one of the nurses would recognize it for what it was if the doc didn’t know. As soon as it was removed and the contents came forth, they’d figure it out, anyway. I’m an RN who worked for five years in a trauma unit, and I can promise you that when a young, unconscious patient is brought to the ER, we are far more worried about the “ABC’s” (airway, breathing, circulation) than we are about what might be lurking in a patient’s nether regions! You’d be surprised what medical devices hide out “down there” – diaphragms, pessaries, cervical caps – so we do check the unconscious females, but we don’t just assume it’s something kinky! 😉
Sorry I am late in responding… I sometimes forget which forums I have posted in…LOL

Thank you for trying to calm my fears about the ER by telling me how docs and nurses run things… I still am childishly squeamish about it due to a past experience with having a tampon string just fall right out while I was wearing it and not noticing.

I was 16/17 when this happened and freaked out…I won’t say how I finally got the tampon out but it was pads for me from then onwards… 😛

God bless

I’m still futzing around with the Cup. My problem is that I can get it folded and inserted but it doesn’t always pop open, and if the cup doesn’t open internally, then I get leakage. I can get it to open about 50% of the time, and those times it works amazingly well. The rest of the time…let’s just say that I’m glad I had a Lunapad and some liners handy this afternoon.

Any thoughts from DivaCup pros?

I’ve only had my cup a little while, but I have not had much of a problem getting it to open. I fold the opening part in half and then insert it at an angle, then to get it to pop open I rotate it and pull it out a little bit. Honestly, I had more of a problem getting it out than putting it in … then I realized I had to break the seal to get it to come out.

yea, you need to rotate it when you put it in both to open it and to make the seal. I had more trouble getting it out at first also. It is usually easy to break the seal though.

Does anyone trim the stem at the bottom? I had to trim mine a bit.

Thanks Ladies for all your (name removed by moderator)ut…😃 😃 😃 I think I will test out the LunaPads for heavy periods by buying 2 of them and see what happens after that…
So… what do you think?

It can be tricky at first. The key is to twist it until it opens and seats itself right. I also find if it just doesn’t seem to be opening, you can sorta pull down on it a bit while twisting. My sil calls it “twist and lock” lol. I just pinch to break the seal and removal is super easy. Unless you let it get super full, it is super clean too! This was for me the most surprising part of it. I am not really squemish, but I was worried a bit about it being messy. Just relax and if it doesn’t seem right, take it out and try again.

I have never had any leakage problems with my cup. And I am a heavy bleeder, some days I do need to empty it every couple hours. But before I found the diva cup, I would pretty much either stay home, or wear dark jeans and go to the bathroom every 20 minutes.

I did trim the stem, the first month I could feel it sorta pinch when I sat down. Not comfortable.

I have used disposable pads/tampons, sea pearls, and even one month some homemade cloth pads my friend made me. The diva cup is my all time favorite. I have had this one about 2 years. I plan on getting one for both of my daughters when their time comes. If they are really bothered, I guess I’ll get some luna pads or similar. Of course the diva is only about $30 compared to $120 for the luna pads.

As for it getting stuck, I just can’t imagine that happening. It sits much lower than a tampon.

Expensive?
Well, lets look at that.

Initial Cost:
A Deluxe LunaPads kit is $120 (and this will take you through an entire cycle) and the average lifespan is 5 years.

A package of Always pads is about $3.50 with a lifespan of 1 cycle.

A box of Tampax tampons is $4.50 with a lifespan of one cycle.

Over one year:
Deluxe LunaPads kit- initial cost $120
Always pads- $42
Tampax tampons- $54

Over 5 years
Deluxe LunaPads kit- no cost
Always pads- $210
Tampax tampons- $270

Over 10 years:
Deluxe LunaPads kit- 1 replacement $120
10 years of LunaPads $240
Always pads- $420
Tampax tampons- $540

So yes, initially it’s expensive. After that, though, its far better
I stock up on those things on sale with coupons. And I have to guess those reusables must wear out.
Sorry, they just seem gross to me.

The cloth pads wear out after a time, but I am going on two years with mine and don’t send any end in site.
The company says about 5 years, but more with proper and gentle care.

I was squeamish at first as well, but had to give them a try, as I was trying to be a good steward of the Earth. Once I got over it, I LOVED them.

I’ve been using Lunapads for about a year now. I love them!
The only thing you have to watch out for: when soaking them, add some kind of laundry soap, and change the water often, at least once a day! Otherwise you’ll regret it. :o 😊 Second, handling the pads is no worse than handling raw meat, and is probably a lot safer, considering that we don’t carry E. coli in our uteruses.
