Lunch during Lent

I have to tell you guys what happened to me today… it is sort of scary.

I was going to eat a peanut butter and honey sandwich and some fruit, for lunch. So I get to the pantry and take out a new jar of PB. Suddenly… I had a “feeling” that I shouldn’t eat it. Something inside of me, told me to see if this jar was part of the recent Peanut Butter recall. It had been in the pantry, awhile. So… I checked.

IT WAS

The brand we had, was listed on the Con-Agra Foods site… and fell under the approximate time span in question.

I nearly fell over backward. I really believe that my Guardian Angel stepped in… and warned me. Thank you, my Angel! :angel1: All all because I was trying to be a GOOD GIRL and not eat junk for Lent <my typical “lunch” might have been a handful of pepperoni, or a half bag of Doritos>. We’re on the 9th day of Lent… and so far, I haven’t slipped.

I think the enemy is good and MAD at me. :rotfl:
MarieVeronica, was the jar part of the first peanut butter recall? I thought the recent recall was for cookies, baked items, items with pb as ingredients but not jars. Do you know if it was the recall a while back or the recent one? Do you happen to have the link to the list?

Whew, close call! Sooo glad you decided not to eat that sandwich.

I plan to fast tomorrow, I’m trying to do so during the Fridays of Lent…

winx–when we fast, we have to eat two ‘small’ meals and one larger one for dinner. Two small meals could be a small bowl of veggie soup, with a few crackers for lunch, or two hb eggs for breakfast…a small bowl of oatmeal. The fast doesn’t have to exclude sugars and bread though…did you read that somewhere?
Y’all have had an impact on my, by the way. I think I’m going to try to fast tomorrow too! Thanks 🙂

🙂 Good to hear…it’s interesting, what happens during fasting. At first, I was so hungry…naturally speaking. Then, the hunger went away, I felt a little light headed…and then…I felt…I don’t know…a peaceful feeling like no other. And also I felt only a glimpse of the pain of what others around the world feel, who go without food and possibly water for so much longer than I do here.

It is humbling.

That’s what I thought too, that jars of peanut butter were safe and it was peanut butter in little cracker sandwiches, etc that were the problem. I normally buy only Trader Joe’s peanut butter, but the closest one isn’t very convenient, so I got some Skippy Natural that I haven’t opened yet.

We’re having a food day because one of my teammates is getting married on Sunday. We had a “groomal shower”. There are little wedding bell garlands around his cubicle, and a big helium balloon and we got him a crown to wear. He also got a great big white plastic whistle that says Honey Do Whistle on it. We tried to tell him it was for the bride, but he’s planning to leave it in his desk. MY POINT being, that I sure didn’t fast today, but I did manage to NOT eat the little smokies in BBQ sauce and all the salami etc on that stupid table! I brought crackers and pumpkin spice cheese. I’m the only Catholic (I should say current Catholic) here, but they’re all very nice about ordering in cheese and veggie pizza on Friday, or picking a place that has something I can eat. A couple years ago we were going to have a site wide BBQ on a Friday during Lent. I emailed the guy in charge and asked if there could be some grilled cheese sandwiches for the Catholics in the crowd…they actually postponed it until after Lent, and it’s never been scheduled during Lent again. I thought that was pretty nice, since very few of the people here are practicing Catholics.

That’s a good thought. We’re so fortunate in the US and Europe and Australia that few of us will even know that sensation, not having food or water, not being able to feed our children, not being able to get medical treatment…you know, What, you may have inspired me a bit.

“LIB” I think you’re fine. Yes, the first one. Although it was “new” on my shelf… my jar of PB was older :blushing: from the time before, the last recall.

Here is the link which I checked… it was for “Peter Pan” PB.

Sorry if I scared yas! I was just so thrilled that I was “stopped” from eating what we had. Could have been devasting for us… if I became ill. No one else to care for my mom.

oops… I just got to the overwhelming hunger/super grouchy part and broke down and ate something. Then I got on here and re-saw this :o I think fasting and I don’t get along very well…

Don’t worry DrPiano, I get a little light headed. Then I get a lot light headed. Then I pass out. :stretcher: Unless I eat a little something. It was really hard on Ash Wednesday. I didn’t eat between meals, had small meals and would just flake out on the floor/bed/couch when it got too bad. My husband and my mother were both pretty upset with me, since I tried to fast. 😊

Yeah, I had had my two small meals and was waiting for my husband for our large meal. It wasn’t really a medical thing though - I was just so cranky and miserable. :o I haven’t really gotten good at uniting my little suffering like that with Christ’s big suffering. Something I’ll work on on Good Friday though! Then I can’t break it (esp. since its not a medical reason).

You can has juice?

I had 1/2 a tuna sandwich today…and then yummy manicotti for dinner tonight out. The sauce was eh, I make better. :o But, it was a pretty good fasting day for me, overall.

What I find very interesting about fasting from strictly a physical standpoint is that I savor my food a lot more, on fasting days…I am not a fast eater, in general, but I really enjoy what I’m eating for dinner on fasting days much more, than a non fasting day. Perhaps that is also a point about fasting…we appreciate what is given to us a bit more, no?

I got through it, too—amazing since I’m feeling icky. For lunch it was half an apple, a quarter of a carrot, a couple of cheez cubes, and something I can only describe as dessicated bagel chips.

The rest of the carrot and apple got added in to dinner: one and a half sushi rolls! (Hot Girl Roll and Godzilla Roll, for those who are interested). 😛

Hot girl roll…godzilla roll…something tells me these two rolls were mighty spicy! :coolinoff::D:thumbsup: I need to try this new restaurant that opened up by us…it’s a chain, Ichaban? Have you ever had sushi there? It has rec’d some rave reviews, but a couple osf so so’s…

The Hot Girl roll was basically a Cali roll with seared salmon on top. SOOO GOOD! The Godzilla Roll is like a spicy crunchy tuna roll topped with avocado—ditto.

So-the-drama moment yesterday when I put a little too much hot sauce in my V-8. :rotfl:

😃

those rolls sound amazing…the closest one that i think i might have come to that sounds similiar is the volcano roll at this lil Japanese place we frequent. 👍
