Dear Forum

My mom asked me last night to whom I had given some clothes away to 3 years ago, as the story emerged that I gave it to a friend. Then mom asked “Did you give the clothes because you owed money?” I think I said “No”, then I quickly changed my stance to “I dont know”. At the time until later that night when I acutally thought it over, I actaully didnt know. Then I told most of the story today, although Im planning on hold back why I gave the clothes unless I have to? Do they have to ask for me to tell them? Or should I go tell them now? Is this all a mortal sin??

Im so troubled by this…

You aren’t going to hell because of some clothes years ago, but you are living with one foot in hell (figuratively speaking) because of your scrupulosity.

Get some help. You will need this issue dealt with ASAP if you are serious about the seminary.

I wish I could…

I hate scrupulosity, I feel that the LORD is putting too much on me, HE is testing my limits, LORD I cannot carry this cross much longer anymore…:(😦

I dont enjoy this pain, its worse than physical pain…

I’ll pray for you. I know how you feel, I suffer from scrupulosity as well. It truly is worse than any physical pain. You should read the book “Understanding Scrupulosity” by Thomas M. Santa, C.Ss.R. This book helped me alot. Also, if you haven’t already, talk to someone about it. Ask for help. Maybe confide in your mother? There is a light at the end of the very dark and twisted tunnel that is scrupulosity.

Never give up:)

Its so hard though…

Scrupulosity affects more than my spiritual life:

It makes me anxious, worried and stressed (Physical)

It makes me depressed, irritated, angry, sad or a combination of them all (Physcological)

It makes me feel like despairing sometimes…

Talk to your priest.

These symptoms can be common among the scrupulous. It’s a really helpless feeling isn’t it? Did you ever talk to your mom about it? A priest or someone you trust?

What did your spiritual adviser say? Have you spoken to him? Has he given you guidance?

If you haven’t contacted him, you need to do so.

If you do not have a spiritual adviser, you need to get one.

It seems to me if you were in any way mature in your faith, you’d know you were not going to hell for this.

It also seems to me like dozens of people have told you to STOP with the continuous posting of every little minute detail of daily life that you think is going to damn you to hell because you’re wearing yourself out and your scrupulousness in driving you mad.

It also seem to me dozens of people have given you excellent advice, which you don’t appear to have acted on, because you’re continuous posting of this stuff doesn’t indicate to anyone the operation of a spiritual director in the background.

Stop already.

I don’t understand this scruples business, but I know very devout and intelligent and knowledgable Catholics here have told you to get a spiritaul director, talk to a priest, and stop with the continuous posting of this stuff as you’re not helping yourself and in fact doing you and your faith harm.

I presume you love your faith enough to listen to them and take their advice onboard?

Sarah x 🙂
