😦 I am interested in what John Macarther has to say about Catholics and the Catholic Church. Some of what I have read is very sad indeed…

ā€œRun Forest Runā€.I had never heard of this guy before your post. After viewing his web site and seeing his attacks on just about everybody,I’m reminded of "let him who is without sin cast the first stone and if anyone says he does not sin is a liar and the truth is not in him.All men sin and fall short. Jesus knows this, thats the reason for the Ministry, the Gift of Reconciliation.Peace.

Thank you for your reply. My heart rests easier…I could not comprehend this persons beliefs or should I say disbeliefs and needed to hear that someone out there had similar views to mine…again Thank you… dorothy… at totoatkansas:D

You are very welcome.May I subjest a web site? Its informative, humorous and is Catholic. www.bustedhalo.com. I hope you enjoy it.May the peace of our Lord fill your soul.Rocky.

I’ve heard the name around a few times and I think he’s typical old-time anti-catholic. The arguments are almost universally recycled from somebody else.

A great resource for learning about these kind of attackers and their phony attacks is Karl Keating’s ā€œCatholicism and Fundamentalismā€

Much earlier this year I sent him a thank-you note. Back in my previous (protestant/evangelical) life, I listened to him regularly, and I started a procedure of Bible study that he had done when he was much younger. It was during this time that my eyes were opened and I started the path of study that resulted in my becoming Catholic. I thanked him for setting me on the road to conversion. In response (and several months later), his organization send me his two-CD set on ā€œExplaining the Heresy of the Catholic Mass,ā€ with a note that they would pray for me.

Unfortunately when ever a religious panel is convened on Larry King Live, there he is in all his Catholic hating glory although he is rather circumspect regarding his hatred while on air.He has no credibility whatsoever except amongst his deluded followers that he is leading into error and away from the TRUTH.

😦 heard of the guy and i actually listened to him for a while till i woke up and came back to the church…he is of the osas variety,he even goes so far as to say if on has slipped into a sinful life that person is still saved regardless of ther sins.in a nutshell he thinks after one accepts Jesus as their personal savior they are free to run amuck.

That’s a mis-characterization of his beliefs.

John MacArthur quotes John Murray to illustrate that one may not ā€œrun amokā€ after accepting Christ:
John Murray:
It is not in the best interests of the doctrine involved to substitute the designation, ā€œThe Security of the Believer,ā€ not because the latter is wrong in itself but because the other formula is much more carefully and inclusively framed. . . .** It is not true that the believer is secure however much he may fall into sin and unfaithfulness.**

That’s a mis-characterization of his beliefs.
then tell us what he beleives …
if one can freely sin ,without repenting of the sins, and still be saved that’s permission to run a muck,no matter how you slice it.i have personally heard the man say this ,the main reason i refuse to even allow his voice on my radio.

See the previous post. Your understanding of his beliefs is flawed. I wouldn’t expect you to be a fan of his or really know that much about him but now you do know a little more than you did a few minutes ago.

Maybe a little more information will be helpful:

ā€œIt is not at all that they will be saved irrespective of the their perseverance or their continuance, but that they will assuredly persevere. Consequently the security that is theirs is inseparable from their perseverance. Is this not what Jesus said? ā€œHe than endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.ā€ā€

It is MacArthur’s belief that God will give them the grace to persevere. To persevere is not running amok in sin.

John MacArthur quotes John Murray to illustrate that one may not ā€œrun amokā€ after accepting Christ:
i guess he changes with the wind then…in answering a letter sent to him, from a person who had accepted Christ in his youth then went on to live a life of sin, which he later repented of.his question was ā€œwas i still saved when i was living in sin?ā€ Mr.MacArthor replied that yes you didn’t need to repent you where still saved but it is good that you did repent…so yeah basically he is saying one is free to run amuck…no other way to put my friend…

First off, you don’t know me so I can’t be your friend.

Secondly, it would be helpful if you would actually post something he wrote and not what you remember him writing or saying. Use his search function for ā€œperserverance of the saintsā€.

He isn’t really qualified to discuss the Catholic faith and from what I have read, he is none to found of the Church.

You can go to his website…I have to google it but you could do a search for ā€œgract to youā€ (gty.org?) and see for yourself.

fine then you are my enemy…so my foe the man said such a thing on public radio so it was more than just myself who heard him say it…how recent was the stuff you say he now preachs?

You can go to his website and do a search on ā€œperserverance of the saintsā€ and see what you find.

The part about no need to repent sounds strange to me. It could be you mis-heard what he said. It could be he was sloppy w/ his language.

Or, as you pointed out earlier, maybe he has changed his mind on the subject.

From what I read last night, it would appear that he does not believe one can sin all one wants and still remain in a state of justification. There is a difference between ā€œOSASā€ and the ā€œPerseverance of the Saintsā€.

I suppose the perseverance of the saints could be restated to say ā€œhe who perservers to the end shall be savedā€ and it’s God who does the perserving.

There are those who believe that ā€œOSASā€ means if one says the sinners prayer he/she is ipso facto saved forever and ever regardless of any transgressions. From what I have read and know of MacArthur (which isn’t a great deal) he would not agree w/ OSAS as I stated it above.

okay so it is quite possible he has changed his views since then, which is good…there was no mention by him (MacArthur) about presevering,in the incedent i related…it was because he stated the person in letter didn’t need to repent and that he was just fine in living a life of sin,and still be saved, that it stayed in my mind.

You seem to be convinced of what you heard so maybe JM either changed his mind or maybe he was rather sloppy in his speech. I will say that he doesn’t seem to hold that opinion at this time though.
